Thanks. I'm working on the principle: 'Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Think, and you think alone.' Or did I misquote something, there?

Weep, and you weep alone.

That's it!

And glad you like the Turrell piece. I've only seen maybe 4 or 5 of his works in person, but they have all been pretty extraordinary. Most recently, I've been admiring this on visits to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. The piece is outside the museum, sort of dug into the lawn:

Spot on!

Bruce - that's exactly like the one I've seen (it's called The Deer Shelter', in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, but it looks exactly like that inside).

The sheer richness of textural intricacy that becomes visible, even with what seems to be a clear blue sky, is extraordinary. And if (after some minutes of staring) a bird flies across the view, it seems like the highest drama moment of the day!

I'm unsure, however (bearing in mind that we must stay on topic), whether Beethoven is James Turrell's favourite composer.

Quite true! Since he deals with physical properties of light that play subtle tricks on one's brain, his work really does need to be seen onsite.

And (struggling to remain on topic) maybe I'll contact him - and ask! That would actually be interesting to know.

Everyone else instead of Beethoven? More stupid relativistic talk from the usual suspects.
Another proponent of the "Blah-blah-blah" theory of musical discourse is heard from.

But to look on the bright side, there's no shortage of slightly strange senses of humour.
One of GMG's most appealing charms.  Not to mention the small but still gratifyingly substantial number of correspondents who actually get me (and thee, I suspect).  I thank you.  Beethoven thanks you.  And Louie the Cat Whore's hair style thanks you, too. ;D

My answer: Almost.
Beethoven would probably be around 4th/5th on my personal list, only beaten by Elgar and Richard Strauss.
And of course, my eternal favourite:

I think I have to give LvB a lot of credit. Favorite? Why not?

At last, I edited it so everyone can now vote for Ubloobideega as their favorite composer. Let the votes flow in!  8)
