Boycott Ebay

I was ripped off for the 1st and final time (as a seller) by Ebay and an unscrupulous buyer recently.  He disputed the price he paid saying he never got it.  I went into the process to respond and ebay said I clicked on the "refund seller" button (which did not happen--there is a glitch in their system).  Anyway, Ebay now says I have no recourse but to be at the mercy of this buyer.  I have repeatedly emailed and even talked to him.  He made some lame excuse that the PO often scans the confirmation delivery label before they actually deliver.  Now I am out $52.

I will be selling elsewhere (ebid.net looks like a great place).

Though luck. :-\

I am considering ways to sell off a few rarer items after I've completed a downsize of my collection. Can private sellers sell through Amazon?

Amazon, at least the US one, has a system which will sell the item for you. You'll have to ship the item(s) to Amazon's storage location, and they'll do the rest.

Mmhh.... that actually doesn't sound so bad - I could get everything to them in one go and avoid the hassle of each individual sell. I'll look into further.

Thank you for the helpful information, Navneeth! :)

You're welcome, Que. :) While not a user of this service personally, I remember Scarpia saying that he was one. I think it's Fulfillment by Amazon.

Delivery confirmation

Yep, did.  That is a no-brainer.  I never send anything without it.  He still put this up for dispute.

I note you said "He made some lame excuse that the PO often scans the confirmation delivery label before they actually deliver.".

Oddly enough, I have some experience here. I recently got a package that had tracking on it, and on a Firday it showed up on the tracking result as "delivered". So when I got home from work I expected it to be there. It wasn't, and didn't come Saturday either. It was delivered on Monday, and I had my wife stop at the PO on her way home (it is closed when I come home) and she asked the clerk about scanning like that and he said "yes, we do it all the time because the rural drivers don't have a scanner with them". Now, I have no way to know if your customer is a rural person or not, or if this even applies to what happened there, but what is lame for a city person is quite possibly not lame for another. Of course, he could be just ripping you off.... :)

Happened to me (in Canada) with another explanation. My package was indeed delivered, but to the wrong address. Happily, that person brought it 'round.

I'm really tired of the maximum bid feature on ebay, where you have bots competing against each other.  I want to know what the highest bid is and not have it hidden, it wastes my time othewise.

Do so agree with you, Starrynight ! Great pity, as I've enjoyed much of the process of seeking out & bidding on E-bay, but my (naive!) refusal to use an automatic bidding machine now puts me at such a disadvantage that I've stopped dealing.
Notice E-bid mentioned earlier - never heard of it; might investigate. Anyone have any other favouite wats to buy/sell on-line ?

Ebay is fantastic, as a buyer or seller, and i am both, of course you will get bad experiences with both from time to time, but the advantages and good experiences far outweigh the bad, i sell on amazon too, it's good not to put all your eggs in one basket, i buy 95% of my CD's on Ebay, most for a fraction of the price i would have to pay new elsewhere, Ebay is one of the greatest things to ever happen to me.

I never have liked Ebay. I think their CD selection is horrible and so are the prices, but I know many people who do use Ebay and get a lot out of it. I never seem to have had much use for it.

As a relatively experienced ebay seller, I feel your frustrations. I have over 600 transactions, and have had several instances of buyers behaving badly. eBay has evolved over the last several years. In an effort to lure more buyers, many of the policies are very one sided. The buyer has the power. With your listing status dependent upon good feedback from buyers, sellers must bend over backwards to assure satisfaction on the other end, even if it means taking a hit in the wallet. Even if you don't agree, eBay enforces their policy, with little recourse for the seller. As a seller I am not too pleased with this, as there are many unscrupulous people out there who readily take advantage of this to get that little extra, for nothing. So the choice to stay on as a seller is rather dependent upon overall experience. With the exorbitant fees and frustrations that continue to mount, I myself have been reconsidering my selling activities .

That being said, eBay is a great place to get some good deals on just about anything. Being the buyer, you have the power :P

I've no idea what a bidding machine is. Back when I used to use Ebay, I figured out that all the action is in the last minute before the sale closes. Just keep hitting refresh, and adjust your bid as needed. You'll need a good connection though.
