Just saw Sarge and Karl admiring "D Minor", thought I would start a thread to explore this popular key.

I'll begin with possibly my favorite Haydn symphony, #80.

The four movements alternate minor(D)-major(Bflat)-minor(back to D) and concludes in D major. The shifting between minor/major delivers a range of emotions and a great example of Haydn's compositional genius.

Vivaldi: Trio Sonata in D Minor, RV 63, "La Folia"

I'm guessing there are over a hundred variations on "La Folia", Vivaldi's is one of the better known, this is a great piece of music, difficult to deny a toe-tap or a smile while listening to this gem.
And the Il Giardino Armonico delivers a dynamite performance.

And no fewer than three of the viola d'amore concerti are in d minor:

I don't really think of pieces in terms of the key, but the one that comes to mind is Bruckner's Mass in D minor.

EDIT: Which I see others have mentioned already. Good ole Bruckner and d minor!
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

I thought this was a thread devoted to the former gmg poster D minor. :D

I love Brahms Piano Concerto #1 in that key. :)

My imprinting came from the Pollini recording:

Also the Gilels recording is awesome.
