After being somewhat intrigued by it, I managed to listen to a movement (Op 135) on Apple Music and the audio was way too strident and harsh for my taste.

Now I'm back to kicking myself for getting rid of the Vegh/Naive recordings of the Beethoven, which is not available only for a kings ransom, or on a streaming service.

Have you heard the later recordings of Janacek on Calliope?  They're favorites of mine.

Would love to hear those Vegh/Beethoven recordings.  I've heard a lot of good things about them.  :)

Haven't heard the Talich Janacek. I'm always interested in Janacek.

I found the Vegh/Beethoven on Apple Music, but haven't listen to any yet. I also have an old mono recording by the Vegh quartet, probably entirely different personnel.

I believe that the group has recorded it at least twice....been a while since I've looked into it.

It's the same personel for both recordings. The stereo is far preferable for artistic reasons.

That is a great, I would say under appreciated, set (originally released on Erato Disques and Teldec).

Dommage! From Switzerland means additional 25 Euros in customs and duties and a lot of trouble with the custom authorities.

Dommage indeed, I had a similar issue! :(
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Yes well one consequence of Brexit is that I've become quite stoical about that sort of thing.

There are limits to what even a completist like me will pay for a CD (or a twofer). In this case, however, I may eventually change my mind.  :)

He said to me

The price of the CD is CHF 25 plus CHF 9 shipping. Please note that UK customs will additionally claim VAT from you.

and the thing that's putting me off is that VAT. Not just how much it will be, and how much the admin charge will be -- but whether he's right. Does anyone know whether VAT will be due on imports from Switzerland to the UK for just 34 CHF?

The Vegh Beethoven quartets (stereo) are very special and definitely worth seeking out. However, it would not be my first recommendation as a set because of sound, intonation and quirkiness. The older single issues are even harder to get than the box.

I'm thinking I need the Ingrit Haebler recordings of the Mozart Piano Concerti, but it seems that is impossible to find. There is the colossal Haebler box.

Didn't @Florestan just get the Haebler recordings in some form?

This is just me attempting to recall something from the WAYLTN thread in recent days.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Hi all, I've split the recent discussion.  If you wish to post about harpsichords, audiophilia, or philosophical discussions about the limitations of scores you'll find it in Harpsichords and Navel Gazing and you may post there, it is not locked.

For recordings that you are considering, this is your thread. :)
