This is insane, I'm not sure I even understand it...

And he just released an album at the end of last month... listening to some tracks, and some are completely atonal, and extremely dissonant, which is something I don't hear enough in rock. If there's any else with such a style, I'd like to hear about it!

(oops, at first I thought the date from the article was this year, but it was from 2007 lol)

The man's weird. I don't think he can help it.  ;D

Check out Praxis - a Bill Laswell project from the early 90s with BH on guitar and Bootsy Collins on bass and former Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell

Why is this not a surprise?  ;D

Sometimes crazy is good. Of course, certain flavors of crazy may not appeal.

ugh i'm going to be physically ill from listening to that trash. at least i know now to avoid it for the future.
That video turned me off, too, for a minute. Luckily, that's not representative of his music.

If you want Buckethead "with taste", there's an endless amount of music to choose from, but I like this:

y'all are lame.  Praxis is a killer band.  Can anyone imagine Bootsy Collins hanging with dorks like Yngwie Malmsteen or Michael Angelo Batio?  What distinguishes Buckethead is that he can groove.

I really like Buckethead's music a lot. I think he's one of the most versatile rock guitarists working today. He may seem weird (understatement of the century) and it may well be one huge gimmick but I cannot deny that there's genuine emotion in his music and that emotion has taken hold of me many times. People can say what they want, I think he's an amazing player.

I never heard of the man, so I went to Amazon to hear samples from his recordings.  Seems like some of his albums are metal rock with plenty of dissonance.  The other albums are rather mellow and atmospheric.  Overall, I'd have to say there's a split personality at work.

Yes, absolutely. The same could be said of my own guitar playing. :) I don't have any samples for you or anyone else to hear unfortunately but I remember in '99 I did a music project I dubbed "Project Bizzare." The entire work consisted of avant-garde noise, feedback, and dissonance all filtered through a Lexicon Vortex machine which looped rhythms over and over. There was one point within this noisy mess where everything came together and it sounded like a string orchestra. 8) The whole thing was recorded, but I can't find the tape! Anyway, that was 13 years ago. My playing has changed quite a lot since that time. I'm more into playing melodically now. I also don't use as much distortion as I used to favoring only some reverb and delay for tonal color.

Ataraxia

I've owned a couple Buckethead CD's. Never got into him too much but it was some nice music.
