No, I'm not trying to see how many acronyms I can fit in a thread title.

The thing that put me off both HvK celebrated '77 LvB 9th is the overall clarity of sound in the finale. The wall of sound approach really doesn't suit this and even the soprano sounds like she has a sock in her mouth.

I have happened across a recording from HvK/VPO with some excellent soloists (Schwarzkopf, Hongen, Patzak, Hotter) made in HvKs pre-BPO days (or when he was just starting anyway) and wonder how this recording rates. There is much to admire in Hvks approach to the "choral' symphony and I am hoping that this will solve that issue I mentioned regarding clarity. All thoughts on the performance itself would be appreciated.
Cheers
