Nother problem:

I imported a multi-disk set out of order.  How do I get them back into their order in Itunes?

Go into the set, and give it some sort of unified name. If the CD numbers and track numbers are right, then that should do it. I think that should do it, anyway.

I'll elaborate a bit more... select all the songs in the multidisc album. Go to the edit info screen (command-i is the shortcut), and then make sure that the album and artist is the same for all of them. Then, select all tracks on disc 1. Get info again and set the disc number fields, eg 1 of 3. Do this for the rest of the discs and iTunes will keep them in the correct order.

They made up for it by releasing two versions of Giuseppe Sinopoli's Maderna set.  8)

I have recently started a major Id-Tag cataloguing project, for no real reason really. But in the long run I think it might be best to do it, because I feel the time to get rid of almost all my CDs is drawing close  :o

Can anyone recommend a good ID Tagging (preferably free) software? Currently I am using Tag Scanner 5 which is good enough, but I need some software that will take the title tags from filenames themselves, and furthermore somehow if possible, take the first two characters of the filename and use them as track no (my files are named as 01 Allegro.mp3, 02 Andante.mp3, ...)

I think a program recommended by Tancata should do it: Tag & Rename. Free to trial, then you have to pay. Does loads of cool things, so you might want to check it out. ;)

Thanks Mark! Just downloaded the trial version. Looks more versatile than what I've been using. I can either finish the task of tagging over 10,000 tracks within 24 hours (that's when the demo expires) or I'll pay up  ;D

Thank Tancata. :D

Did you notice that the company which makes this program also makes the completely free AudioShell? Go to the SoftPointer website and download it. Then, when you right-click on an MP3 file and select Properties, you'll see an AudioShell tab. From here, you can modify all the main tag fields ... and even add or remove album art. It works for batch editing, too. ;)
