Kurt Moll is by far the best Baron Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier) and Sarastro (Zauberfloete). No bass can achieve the lower register as well as Moll. He is in several videos and CDs of Der Rosenkavalier. Any comment on Kurt Moll?
The sun's a thief, and with her great attraction robs the vast sea, the moon's an arrant thief, and her pale fire she snatches from the sun  (Shakespeare)

Moll's voice is so immediately recognizable it provides a vocal 'face' for any role he undertakes, even small ones, such as Count Monterone in Giulini's Rigoletto or Lodovico in Solti's first Decca Otello. In longer roles (King Marke, Gurnemanz) his overwhelimingly deep, sonorous basso can induce aural fatigue  :o. It's almost too much of a good thing.

I don't know his Ochs, but his magisterial Sarastro can be sampled in different recordings. I think it's the role that made him world famous and a popular favourite at the Met.
