Schbeebes

Hello to the Forum,

New to forums, posting - lifelong student and practitioner of music, amateur and professional instrumentalist, composer, conductor, chorister, variously. Recently inherited my father's reel-to-reel recordings of FM radio broadcasts of Boston Symphony from 70s-early 80s. A treasure trove of some great conductors with an ensemble in a peak period. Particularly meaningful to me right now is Christo's RVW quote: "...music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury...". I'd love to know where this comes from. Favorite composers from early on - Stravinsky, Britten, Holst, Copland. Glad to be here. I'll post as often as I'm able. Thanks.

Welcome, Schbeebes, and hope you enjoy your time here. I love all four of the composers you mentioned, especially the first two. And those Boston tapes sound fantastic - what a great gift from your dad. The orchestra certainly was excellent during those years.

Welcome to the forum, Schbeebes!
Stravinsky is among my favourites, and the others aren't bad, either :)

Welcome to the forum, I hope you will have a nice time here! :)
Glad to see you like Holst, he's one of my favourite composers as well; Britten and Stravinsky are also very good.

Das Lied is an amazing work; the Ewig, ewig, ewig...at the end is just the greatest thing... Yes, I'm a Mahler fan, too and, as you may know, so was Britten.
