Since Shostakovich got his own poll, why not start one on my other favorite Russian composer? Let's have some fun. :)

About 45%, Haven't heard the operas or songs from Prokofiev, either :(

I've heard all the symphonies, concerti, ballets, and most of his other various orchestral works, which include the ones for soloists/chorus (i. e. Alexander Nevsky, Seven, They Are Seven). I've heard the SQs (great stuff), sonatas for violin, cello, but haven't heard his piano sonatas except for a few of them, and I definitely haven't heard any of his operas. I'm not sure what the percentage would be. Maybe 55%?

Brian

In no particular order:

Alexander Nevsky
Symphonies 1, 2, 5
Cello concerto and concertino
All five piano concertos
At least violin concerto I think? But can't remember?
A handful of solo piano music, 10-15 minutes' worth
String Quartets 1, 2
Scythian Suite
Tales of an Old Grandmother
Peter and the Wolf
Romeo and Juliet (selections by Ancerl)

Pretty tip-of-the-iceberg I'm afraid.

Yep, there's still so much for you to hear, Brian. Surprised to see you haven't listened to all of the symphonies or ballets (edit: you did hear Scythian Suite but there's many more to explore).

Half of his operas, some songs and several film scores is all I lack. I hit 85%, but it's somewhere in between 75-85%.

mszczuj

Well I haven't heard so far 3 operas 2 ballets, Sinfonietta, allmost all songs, more than half of choral, more than half  of film-theatre-propaganda music and great number of countless suites (but some suites are just fragments of works I have heard). It is rather hard to estimate but probably about 65%.

I like it! Unlike the Shostakovich poll (where I "eye-balled" it), I'll do a semi-soft audit for Prokofiev, and will cast my vote when the results are in . . . .

About 45%; I haven't heard Prokofiev's operas yet, as well as many of the ballets, some of the orchestral works, the songs, the film music and the vocal orchestral works, apart from Peter and the Wolf and Seven, they are seven.

I hit 55% but taking a closer look, it's probably 65% or more. I own all the symphonies, ballets, the chamber music, the piano sonatas and the other major piano works; six operas. I'm weak in the choral works, songs, incidental and film music, and minor piano pieces.

Haven't heard the Fiery Angel, the Gambler, or The Story of a Real Man.  Can't remember if I've heard 7 They Are 7.

I've heard all of these + about 50% of his operas, his complete solo piano works and some of his songs. Is that 70% ?

Actually, less than 10%

This is a great example of the silliness of counting by the opus numbers - the piano works (9 sonatas, and a few CD's worth of other stuff), the rest of the symphonies (3 CD's), and the songs are pretty much all of the major stuff missing from Marvin's list.

But isn't that point of this poll? The question isn't, What percentage of the major works have you heard (I'd guess the majority would be at 100% or close) but rather how much of his entire output have you heard. Asked that way, Marvin hasn't heard much.

Yes. Note that I didn't say that I don't like silly polls. And counting the percentage by time or amount of bars/notes would be practically impossible.
