Is anyone running in the Marathon this Sunday?   Some runners are dropping out - out of respect for those who have lost
so much from Sandy.

Guess there are mixed feelings, some feel and I agree that it should be moved to a later date, others say cancel the whole thing.

Any opinions one way or the other?

I'd run it. If anything, the marathon represent so much--the human spirit, never say die, endurance, etc. If I were there, I'd sign up. It'd be my third and I'd think the run would lift the spirit of many.

Seems similar to the approach that the NFL and MLB took after 9/11. I don't think it would be a bad thing, it could help raise some money for relief efforts.

Just saw that NYC is bringing in generators to power up the marathon. While many residents are still without power.

This doesn't seem good.

I would love to run a marathon at the same time as the NY one, in support of our folks there. But it'd be middle of the night in Beijing and I'd look like an idiot or a mentally disturbed person and someone may alert the police or a mental institution.

OK, I think I will just sleep over it. But I fully support the run.

The questions is, I suppose, if resources are being diverted.  Power is out because the cables are compromised, not due to lack of generation capability.  I'd be more concerned that police resources will be taken up and transportation disrupted.

Marathon is canceled.

They should have decreed that each marathon runner will be tethered to a little trolley filled with food to be distributed along the route.
