Liszt and Stravinsky?

I like 'em both.
I don't.

Figured it would be in reference to that stupid discussion. ;D

springrite alluded to it first.  :)

Damn, I'm not starting this day intelligently at all ;)  0:)

Fafner

I like them both, but I should listen to them both more than I do.

Ironically, my favourite Liszt composition is one that he did not write - Kenneth MacMillan's Mayerling ballet. Its music is a compilation of the Faust Symphony and other existing works by Liszt, some of them orchestrated specifically for the ballet. :)

Then, put that against Les Sylphides and see who wins!!!

You might give Orpheus a listen someday. Just a suggestion.
I'll put it on my list. Any particular recording?
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Liszt's or Stravinsky's?  ;)

That's what confused me, too, as it is more than likely Karl's intention!

The two I know are Stravinsky's own, and Robt Craft/LSO (which must be on Naxos now). I like them both.

Like em both! Dante Symphony, Dumbarton Oak and A Soldier's Tale (suite or full) get some good playtime with me.  ;D

. . . honestly . . . your posts on this read like that, regurgitating stuff from 'out there' with very little introspective critical or inquisitive thought . . . .

Why, Karl, you didn't ask for why, just which of the two (if both or any) we love.  ;D

As for me, I prefer Liszt because he is more melodic than Stravinsky and  gratifies my ears more than him (well, except that gorgeous Petrushka, a great melodic feast) --- because I am as conservative as it gets: of the 3 main ingredients of music (melody, harmony and rhythm) I put my money on melody, whether hummable or not. And when it comes to melody Liszt is far ahead of Stravinsky. Other than that I can't offer any introspective thought: I am a complete musical illiterate (and I deeply regret it, am even frustrated by it... ;D )

Oh gosh! I didn't recognize it...  :o shame on me then.  :( Anyway, I stand by what I've just written.  ;D

Fine, fine Andrei.

Mind you, I didn't ask about preferences, but such discussion is certainly fair game, and indeed, of interest : )

Fafner

Incidentally, both Stravinsky and Liszt in a piano programme here at Medici.tv.

I like Liszt's music, but I love Stravinsky's, so I voted for both of them.

Klaze

Like both, but prefer Stravinsky by far, right now my favourite piece being the Cantata!

PaulSC

Certainly like 'em both. Don't quite love either one unreservedly. With Liszt, I have occasional style-over-substance issues. (Don't enjoy the opera paraphrases, for instance.) With Stravinsky, maybe just vague/mild disappointment that he didn't/couldn't keep going in the direction of Le Sacre.

For what it's worth, I adore late Stravinsky. Late Liszt, not so much...
