Just looking on line at the Brilliant box set of Beethoven:

New, on Amazon, it is $103

A couple years (or more back) my wife surprised me with this set:

Both have 85 cds, but my set has Gulda for the piano sonatas, while the yellow box has Brendel.  Not sure if any other changes were made.  Anyone else notice this shift?

The white box also seems to be OOP now.

Bill,
I don't have either one, so no authority, but I had been told by someone who had both boxes that there were several changes in addition to the piano sonatas. I can't enumerate them, although IIRC the symphonies are different too. Hopefully someone who has had both can chime in.

Thanks, Gurn.  Must have been a licensing issue I am guessing.

The person who told me about it had the first one, sold it, then decided to re-buy when the second one was released. He told me they were different, else I wouldn't know, really. I can tell you his name in a PM and you can ask him.  :)

IIRC, our Premont owned the old and the new version of Bach's BC big box. So, it's not that unusual....  ;D

Yes, you recall correctly. But concerning the Brilliant Beethoven box I only own the old box (with Gulda´s version of the piano sonatas).

Yes, I also guess he has some interest in that composer.

I certainly do. And I can add that those two Brilliant boxes together constitute less than 10 % of my entire Bach collection.

Whoa! That's like 300 discs (implying 3000+ Bach discs)!!!! Your Bach collection is bigger than my entire collection!

There have been two versions of the Mozart box too. Brilliant updates their boxes occasionally when they get access to what they consider better performances.

Arkive have the full listing of the new set at
http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/Name/Zurich-String-Trio/Ensemble/109004-4
- possibly 85 CDs + 1 CD-R for texts, the 87 might be a mis-count having put the text on in and then added it again.

How is Brendel an upgrade to Gulda? >:D
