Yes, that Hindemith recording was very good I also liked his Shostakovich 10th & 11th, Sibelius 2nd, Mahler 5th, and Stravinsky recording.

Sad news.  He did some fine work.  His DSCH 11 in concert was a revelation - the immense power and scale of the work live crushed what recordings offer.  I think I've only listened to the work on disc a couple times since.  He was quite good in Brahms, too.
