Martinu: The Parables [Ancerl]....

Wonderful, often radiant, music that benefits from very appealing and atmospheric scoring. The performance is powerful, assertive and driven.

Indeed. If only Ancerl would have recorded Estampes.

Kontrapunctus

A classic LP. I wish I could find volume 2 for a decent price, but all I can find are between $59 to $89!

Thanks - at last a CD transfer of Kamu´s 6th and Comissiona´s 9th too - both very recommendable.

I wouldn't call these "transfers".  They are needle drops of Lps.  I've bought a few of them and found them mediocre.

SymphonicAddict

Frankel - Symphony No. 4

I like the Frankel's style. There is some deep music in this work, especially in the 1st movement, something really touching.

Please report.

First post here: http://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php/topic,31.0.html.  The assessment still mostly applies, though I probably am a bit less fond of the vocal writing now.

His second Naxos disc is in my queue.

Joining SymphonicAddict's string sextet-a-thon with Martinu's work in the genre:

A very enjoyable work with some interesting use of chromaticism.

Tchaikovsky's Dumka in C minor from Scenes from a Russian Village: https://youtu.be/_qWXH_Eqb0o

Great stuff! I previously wasn't aware there was music of such high quality in Tchaikovsky's solo piano output.

On now. I love Beecham's Beethoven. He always said he didn't care for the composer;but you wouldn't think so from these performances. It's great to have some in stereo, too! Symphony No 2 is on at the moment! Beecham's performance of the Seventh here,is made even more intriguing by his observation, that, "It's like a lot of yaks jumping around! Beecham recorded No's 3,4,6 & 8 in mono. I wish he'd done the remainder. Particularly,No 5!
