I have only listened to the first cd in that box, but it was love at the first encounter...    :) :) :)

Just received a 'small' package from BRO (Berkshire Record Outlet) of mostly medieval music - first two up:

Red Byrd - A Scottish Lady Mass - sacred polyphonic mass music for the Virgin Mary from St. Andrews ca. 13th century w/ influences from the Parisian school of the same era, i.e. Léonin & Pérotin - reviews from AllMusic & MusicWeb, for those interested.

Otfrid von Weissenburg (c. 800- a. 870) - Liber Evangeliorum w/ Wilfried Rombach & Ensemble Officium - interpretive performances from the Carolingian Renaissance - just a fascinating recording combining recitation (in an old High German/Frankish language), chant, and some instrumentation - MusicWeb review highly convincing!  Dave :)

torut

Haydn - Divertimenti for String Trio Hob. V:10&11 (Camerata Berolinensis)
Barbara Monk Feldman - The Northern Shore (Sabat/Clarke, Rothbrust)
Radu Malfatti - Heikou
Joan La Barbara - Voice is the Original Instrument

Glenn Gould playing Beethoven's 3 op. 31 sonatas. Whatever Gould does to Beethoven, it is always interesting and I stop making comparisons.

Dmitry Smolsky. A disc of orchestral works on the Olympia label. In between Kabalevskyy, Nosyrev, Kancheli and yet, with its own wistful, sometimes terribly disquieted voice. TThere is an Overture, concertos for dulcimer, celo and violin. I have no hesitation in thinking the cello concerto is a minor masterpiece. For some reason the Kancheli-like 6th symphony has very muffled sound. The rest is in very good stereo. On the Olympia label.

Very cool work, Ilaria!

(Listened to quite a bit of Sibelius today myself, too - symphonies 4-7 from Maazel & VPO, plus Isokoski & N. Järvi's Luonnotar & Berglund and Helsinki PO's Tapiola.

Just played their 8. I love 8, but so far only the Borodins know how to play it just right.  :(

I love 8 as well. I played it in my high school orchestra (under the re-naming "Chamber Symphony"). Horrifying music.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".
