Just woke up realizing it is 4am here - the bed is beckoning.
Still, good idea to have a Wagner Friday, so I will follow suit in a few hours.

Hmm, the cd cover with Sinopoli kind of looks like a sideview of your avatar.....!!

How is Sinopoli's Wagner? I have never heard his renditions. How do they compare?

Good morning, Greg! (or good afternoon on this side of the Atlantic)..

Sinopoli is almost always interesting (sometimes irritating, as well  ;) ). I don't know that particular CD, but I would want to hear his take on the Meistersinger prelude... :)

In German we have an interesting word in this context: "bestricken": stricken - to knit, bestricken - to enchant (or to entrap), der Strick - the rope ...

Thanks, again, Sadko - that fascinated.  8)  (Don't forget verstricken!)  AND who knows what Teufelei you may have saved my soul from!@#?

Hey, Moon.

Perhaps Sinopoli is the Monkey King!  :o And this is the only Wagner from Sinopoli I've heard, but it's a nice disc, very well played and passionately interpreted. Hard to really judge Sinopoli's take on Wagner just based on overtures and preludes, and perhaps the Dresden would have been a better choice for orchestra.

Morning, Ritter.

This disc is super cheap used on Amazon, certainly worth it.

Your Friday Wagner custom - is this an affectionate nod to Parsifal in which the weary protagonist meets the aged hermit in the forest on Good Friday?  Please say yes, even if it's got absolutely nothing at all to do with it...  0:)

In my top ten, I think.
G'day, Karl!

Cheers, Karlo & ZD!

I was initially going to say Top 10, but then caution nipped at my heels . . . I've always been a great fan of this 'un.  Heard the NEC Wind Ensemble play it live here in Jordan Hall some few years back.

And it will not surprise any who have heard my piece, that the final chorale of Out in the Sun is essentially a nod to the Stravinsky.

Yes indeed, Greg! I've only seen the film version, though, and have it saved in the virtual media box.
