Autumn Leaves

#67420
This Morning's listening:

An orchestral version of Souvenir De Florence (performed by Orpheus Chamber Orchestra).

Now:

Listening to the Piano Quartet. Magnificent work and performance.

Kontrapunctus

I haven't listened to this CD in ages--my, what a fine player he is. Good sound, but there's a jarring edit in the 10th Sonata.

Sheppard, Mass and motets
The Sixteen

From their superb box of English polyphony.

Todd-inspired

Funerailles, bits of the Années, Mephisto Waltz, a Consolation and a Liebestraum.
How's the execution? (Transcendent?)

I take offense at the insinuation of the word "alleged".  ;)

Being a better translator than Google, I'll take a crack at it:

The committee in charge of finding the director of the commission for preparatory consulting on the draft legislation regarding the conferring of duties about supervising the labeling of beef.

Thread duty:

Hey, how do you like the Leinsdorf box?

Now:

A new acquisition. Listening to Symphony No. 1 in C minor, "The Bells of Zionice," B. 9. This may be only the second time I've heard this work. I'm really enjoying it. Wonderful melodies.

I finally got around to Tchaikovsky 5 in the Silvestri Icon box, because who needs to rush to hear yet another 5, when I have several great ones. Well, wow. This is really great one, somehow just a bit different without being eccentric, poised without losing intensity.

Update. That was sensational. You can sense his complete control, but it's always spontaneous.

Now, Liszt, Tasso. Quite fine.

String Quintet #1

SS #7 for a first listen.

Johannes Kalitzke's Das Labyrinth der Lieder - Johannes Kalitzke, cond.

Vincent Persichetti's Winter Cantata - Tamara Brooks, cond.

Madiel

Dvorak's 8th symphony again, because the other night wasn't enough.

I don't remember being as taken with it when I first bought the box in 2014. But now I'm really enjoying this work.

My morning listening starts with a return to this:

[asin]B0086WQO9A[/asin]
Posthumous musical tributes by younger contemporaries of Johannes Ockeghem.
A mass by Jacob Obrecht takes center stage, next to shorther compositions by Pierre De La Rue, Josquin Desprez, Antoine Busnoys, and Johannes Lupus.

I am going through a Dvorak phase at the moment and I like the look of that set along with the pending release with Pesek that Camphy posted recently

Madiel

Streaming Dvorak's piano music again.

The op.52 pieces from 1880 are perhaps the best yet.

Now onto the 6 Mazurkas, op.56 from the same year.

Rondo in G major
Rigaudon from Suite VI

I've decided that a recording of The Execution of Stepan Razin is something I would like to add to my collection at some point. This one seems to get pretty good reviews.

I may end up supplementing Bělohlávek/Onyx with this one. The performances may not be at the same "technical" level but are even more exciting and moving.
