Today's listening:

First 2 Discs of this box: Piano Sonatas, The Scherzos and various other stuff.
The Disc with the Piano Sonatas is probably my favourite in the box.

The new erato

Last evening, this:

Beautiful Huguenot psalms. Also made a dent in the big Naxos box set of Debussy orchestral Music.

Rather definite Words.

I haven't listened to this recording more than once (about three weeks ago), but I do not recall it as being that bad.

Yes, I was in a bad mood last night. This morning parts of it sound pretty good!

Now Schubert, the big quintet with Slava. And this really is exceptional.
Yes, highly recommended. A top 10 recording of the piece, and probably the best thing they've done.

David Winkler: Elements Concerti - Anna Rabinova, violin/Orchestre de Chambre Francais/Ivan Meylemans - Naxos 8.559383
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

The 24th and the 27th are my personal favorites from Miaskovsky. They really got under my skin the most.

Sampling a smattering of new releases today.

On the Brahms & Fauré album, I'm listening to neither Brahms nor Fauré, but rather "Concerto in Waves" by Aaron Jay Kernis.
The choral CD is an Icelandic group singing mostly Icelandic music - the Icelandic texts are bookended by MacMillan, Tavener, and Pärt.

Brahms: Requiem [Alsop]....

Quite an accomplished, smooth and rounded performance; devotional with the requisite gravitas and with fine choral singing. The volume needs to be turned up a tad above normal for some reason to fully appreciate this one. Well worth a listen.

I would be interested in a comparison of this to the other Naxos recording, with the Warsaw PO and Antoni Wit...
