Excellent.  :)

I am in full agreement with you Dancing Divertimentian!

Cheers.

*Nods* Cheers, HIPster!

In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Christian Ferras - French Violin Masterpieces.

My first time of hearing Chausson's Poeme op, 25 - Wonderful.
"You overestimate my power of attraction," he told her. "No, I don't," she replied sharply, "and neither do you".

Superb disc. Enjoy!

Listening to this pioneering (the first ever?) recording of Béla Bartók's Cantata Profana (in an English translation):

Walter Süsskind's recording of Bluebeard's Castle (on this same set) is a winner IMO, but this Profana  is an altogehther rougher affair (and the sonics--the original LP was issued in 1950--don't help). Once again, I find much to admire, but not really that much to love, in Bartóks' music. With exceptions (Bluebeard, The Wooden Prince, the 3rd Piano Concerto), I find Bartók's oeuvre rather alien to my sensibility.  I've said it before: Bartók is a composer I respect more than I like:-[

Beaucoup de joie, là-dedans :

What I know of this recording, and mind that was a long time ago, that I found much favour in it.
It also reminds me of how many discs waiting in my collection to get another turn in my player, :(

Symphonie in einem satz (1928) : strange work. Craggy.... cannot yet figure out how and where it touches me. Could appeal, I think, to those who like Ives , Brian, Hindemith - late Koechlin????

Will give it another listen.

Good grief, Harry, I hadn't noticed that this recording is now 22 years old!  Well, that's still young, compared to this listener.  Anyway, it's one reason why Rameau has defied the odds and wormed his way into my Top Ten Composer List (a distinction not even accorded J.S. Bach).

I had a little trouble tracking this down because you (Harry) misspelled the composer's name on your website:

Tomasášek

But the music sounds very nice, so thanks for the head's up.
