Leifs: Concerto for Organ....

This is a work that is slow to start. It is uninteresting and dull to begin with but gradually builds to an engaging, dynamic and powerful conclusion.

That is wonderful music and I am a long time admirer of the Tallis Scholars; but, for all of that, I do not own that one.

A very effective K 593 from The Tatrai, well worth hearing I'd say.

So XI turns out to be dyslexic Roman numerals? Ha!

My first impression of Scelsi was one of those "not bad...but not necessarily enough to make me want more." Obviously a case where repeated listens will be needed.
Yeah, them Italians are rubbish at Roman numerals 😂
Scelsi's early music is what we musicologists call "quite normal" whereas the later music elicits comments such as "Call that music? There isn't even a tune!"
At least, that's what my partner opined. Case in point:

Bruckner: Symphony No. 6. Wand/Cologne. Really an excellent performance and recording. Only Klemperer is better for me.

Great!  :)

Meanwhile  I've come to the conclusion that Léon Berben can not only be a tremendous hit, but also a miss: his Clavier-Übung III was somewhat of a dissapointment... :(

Well, that's sad to hear. I had been eyeing his other Bach discs. :-X
Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Mehta's LAPO Sinfonia Domestica is probably now my favorite version of this work.  Everything sounds flowing and "natural" and lovely.  I'll probably spin the disc for a second time in the next month or two, and then I probably won't listen again until next decade sometime.

Did that one get voted off the island in an early round?
I agree that's a great one, up there with HvK ...

Trial an error, I'm  afraid... His Toccatas set (for organ & the complete set for harpsichord) is awesome:

Strongly recommended!  :)

Haven't heard his Kunst der Fuge (on organ) album yet...

Morning listening:
I have a soft spot for Pietro Domenico Paradies, the last standard bearer of the Neapolitan School in keyboard music.

This OOP disc came fairly quickly accross the pond from Academy Records.

Morning listening!

I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.
