There IS a difference, after all: "... 20-page printed booklet; this is complemented by 200 pages of online documentation ..."

Too bad, glad to have the original edition which has those 200+some pages in paper!

Now I know, I'm glad I got the 1st reissue as well.... I also like the cover with Scarlatti's portrait better... :)

Morning listening is this set that arrived yesterday from Amazon UK:

[asin]B01BLQJ44O[/asin]

Which was excellent timing since today is a national holiday here - King's Day.
And being in the service of His Majesty's government, I have the day off.
Plenty of time to listen to some wonderfull music.... :D

Haven't listened to this one in a very long time, since November 2009... that's so long that it's before Tori Amos turned the 2nd movement into a song on her Classically-inspired album released on Deutsche Grammophon...

Ahem. Anyway, I'm enjoying this a lot and I think that's partly because I'm listening to it separately from its D.958 and D.960 companions.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Nothing like some Shostakovich in the AM to jolt one back into reality. :)

Slightly disappointed by this new release

[asin]B06XDPX3WN[/asin]

I am usually quite found of vocal melodies in the Czech language, because there is a openness in the diction favorable to the forward projection of the voice.  In the sopranos and mezzos there is also a sharpness which I find enjoyable.  Something like a taste of lemon on a fig.

Somehow this tenor has the openness but I dont find the sharpness that I usually enjoy so much.  In addition, the Cypress cycle in the first part of the CD was composed by Dvorak at the age of 23 when he was madly in love with an actress and the texts he chose are "love silly".  The evening and gypsy songs in the second half are better but I had them on another CD.
