First listen to the Alban Bergs in the 'Dissonance' quartet.

Well, I like the opening Adagio a LOT. Nicely flowing so that the overall shape is apparent.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

I bought this after reading some comments Mandryka made about it that sounded very interesting. It turns out I misunderstood what he said to some degree (apparently he wasn't actually recommending the set or Hantai), although (fortunately) it really is very interesting.

By now, you don't need my say-so, but I'll say it anyway: exquisite!

Strauss: Ein Heldenleben. Berlin Philharmonic, Karajan (1986). Not my favourite Strauss, and not my favourite recording of the work. Still, an object lesson in orchestral playing and a very good sound recording. From the 5 cd set of Strauss-Karajan issued on DGG.

Thoughts?  And happy Monday!
It's a theatrical piece, and those always have sections that are weak on their own, especially if you've never seen it. This does for sure. But it also has some gorgeous stuff that grabs you and won't let go.
