I am so impressed with all these recordings (so far) from Reiner/ CSO! Gilels performance is of course a delight and the movements speed by quickly.   I wonder if all the rumors are true about Reiner pushing his ensemble to the limit?
Are you familiar with the Bartok Concerto for Orchestra, Moonfish? The Reiner is legendary. So is the music.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

Help! I felt my beard growing while listening to this performance.

You say that, like it's a bad thing . . . .

Okay, I misread the cover and thought the one work was "Best Pair of Sirens" and immediately all kinds of inappropriate jokes started popping up!   :o   0:)

Some of them were visual!   :o :o :o

Anyway, now I am intrigued by the work!   ;)

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

How could it be anything other than visual? Conceptual?

PS: Same here  ;)

Heh-heh!  Verbal nonsense, but I like your conceptual possibility!

I have become a big fan of these, and Krommer generally.

Speaking of visual, reading this made me think of the quintessential Best Pair of Sirens: [asin]B000VR055C[/asin]

It's good, classic Parry, with an appropriately uplifting ending. And I'm intrigued to listen again!  ;D

A fairly tame, balletic Bruckner Sixth, with fast tempos but a light touch. The first movement, in particular, is surprising at how un-bombastic it is. The anti-Wand, especially with the Concertgebouw brass weirdly reticent, even shy. The codas are consequently lacking in decision and majesty. I can imagine different people loving and hating this.
