Then it must be new recordings, because the NM recordings date all from 1999 - 2001. :)

Though the inclusion of recordings by Gustav Leonhardt in the Glossa set provides a mystery in light of the information they provide: he passed away in January 2012.... ::)

Q

There are no recordings which are both in both the Glossa box and in the NM box. There are some excellent things in both boxes. I would, for example, be reluctant to be without the Asperen in NM, and the Winsemius in Glossa.

As an aside: usually Rifkin gets very few love of classical music fans. And I find it quite heartbreaking.

Just some days ago, I read here some harsh words about his B Minor Mass which is one of my favourite recordings of this work.  :)

He used to talk about reeducating audiences to appreciate authentic performances. He was OVPP in big masses. He was not at all into decoding any spiritual meanings hidden in Bach's music in the Schweitzer/Harnoncourt way. He's a serious rebel. I'm not surprised to hear he rubbed some people up the wrong way.

Has anyone heard his recording of Willaert motets? I'm wondering whether it makes a good case out for Willaert, whose music has so far eluded me completely. But I can sense that there's something interesting harmonically going on so I don't want to give up on it.

Outstanding box set, one of four.

Starting in on disc one from the big Kissin box.  I own only a handful of Kissin's discs, so most are first listens, as this one is.  Not the best Rach 2 I've heard, but very good nonetheless.

Probably the disc that introduced me to to LvB's solo piano work and then lead me to his sonatas.  The above were all recorded in 1996 at Henry Wood Hall save the Für Elise, which Brendel put to tape in 1984.  The Philips sound is exceptional and if you enjoy Brendel like I do, this disc is nice to have at the fingertips.

Hi Bill!  Excellent recording that I enjoy very much as well.  Especially that opening bagatelle track in Op. 33

I'm not really a fan of Brendel, but that disc is perhaps the best thing I've heard from him, and one of the greatest recordings of the Bagatelles.

I bought the other three volume a couple years ago, and figured it was time to complete the set.  Every bit as good as the other volumes.  More personal and flexible than Schirmer's recording of the same works, but every bit as good.

I'm not sure whether I love this or hate it (which is probably true for the Rhodes in general). Regardless, I'm glad he did it. And funny comment about Frescobaldi's preferred instrument!
