Very nice.  Hope you love that incredible 3rd movement Romanza.

Pleased with this box, I am guessing?

Rawsthorne: Symphony No. 1...

A wonderful work containing great tension, drama and orchestral colour throughout.

I was rather afraid of that  0:)
Considering getting it? I assume you have a good bit of the works, and a few of the recordings too, on CD already.

Seconded. I discovered these symphonies earlier this year, on the Naxos recording, and No. 1 is definitely my favourite of the three. Looking forward to hearing more Rawsthorne in the future.

I should take a look.  I don't think I have any specific recording redundancies in the piano solo works, nor the романсы;  and it is high time I had recordings of the operas.

I'm sure Cato agrees on the last point.  8)
The operas are available separately for about half the price of the box at Amazon MP, so the box might not be a bad deal for another set of songs and solo piano (and choral works? Korniev & St Petersburg Chamber Choir do those quite well).

A couple of new arrivals today prompted by Jerry Dubins recommendations (see attached PDF, if interested):

Godard, Benjamin (dates below and short bio) - String Quartets & Piano Trios - my first discs of this short-lived French Romantic composer and violinist - rave review by Dubins on the string quartet disc in the Nov-Dec issue of Fanfare - listening now and would have to agree - he was more elusive about the piano trios performances, but how can one go wrong w/ the Trio Parnassus on MDG - I shall see (i.e. hear) shortly?  Dave :)

Today, re-listening to the two left CDs above - recent acquisitions and impressed - just ordered the Piano Concertos recording w/ Shelley on the Hyperion 'Romantic Piano' series - Dave :)

I am certain they do!  So, even though I have other recordings of the bulk of the (wonderful, as we all know) music, I think the box will be worth acquiring.

Maybe for Christmas . . . .
