Karl recommended a James Levine BSO 'Daphnis' which the orchestra self-released. I never did get to hear it (yet).

It's superb. I may prefer Abbado in the atmospheric opening scene, but it's this version that has the most exciting, successful finale I've so far encountered.

Really looking forward to this.

That recording of the mighty e minor symphony remains my favorite!

Simply put, this is one of the best discs in my collection (El Fenix de Paris). The Musicweb review is right - this is a disc not to be missed...

Good morning.

A Dave (Sonic) rec.  Beautiful stuff and fortunately three volumes to be had.

I'll definitely be joining in the birthday festivities for Nielsen, but first:

Listening to Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 44. Scintillating performance.

Nobody told me it was his birthday. Mirror Image was just planting ideas in my head...

Thumbs up! ;D Are you going to listen to both symphonies?

And break all my listening rules? Of course not. If I want to revisit this recording of No.2, I will have to buy it.

I see lots of Shostakovich today. You guys must be stocking up before he is eliminated.

Oh, I thought you owned a Nielsen symphony cycle?

Oh, I thought you owned a Nielsen symphony cycle?

Nope. Sorry, I thought that was clear from my reference to a streaming service on the other thread. Most definitely planning to get one unless the last 3 symphonies are inexplicably awful, but I only own the tiniest scrap of Nielsen thus far. Accidental side-effects of my Holmboe collection...

Hey, congrats, enjoy it!

I find that many of the best days in my life are without any listening time, simply because they're spent with friends and loved ones, or traveling.
Unfortunately it's long distance..... >_> But fair enough. The happiest days for me usually carry with them either the least need for music, or the greatest knowledge of what music would best fit at any given moment, lol

also listening to: Haitink Shostakovich 15 on youtube (better than his studio recording, actually surprisingly moving in my current context) and now a Herreweghe Bruckner 8 (very much enjoyed, apart from a slightly too slow final coda).
