Aha!

The Shakespeare set came timely....
I can't make up my mind about the Rheinberger.  Some of it seemed first rate music by a first rate composer, but some seemed first rate music by a second rate composer....while the rest was second rate music by a first rate composer!  In other words, rather mixed bag.

Rheinberger in my book is a magnificent composer. I actually never think in terms of second rate, or even third rate. As long as the music takes me were I want to go, it's all fine with me. I will eventually buy more music by his hands.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Oooh. You got the Rheinberger. I hope you like it. It didn't bother me that some music was better than others - I still felt the overall level of craftsmanship was high (and I like this sort of thing, so perhaps that helped too).

I have listen extensively through the samples, and found no fault in the music. I am sure I will enjoy it, immensely.
Will report of course of my findings :)

My 2nd batch of Japanese purchases at Tower Records in Tokyo the day before I flew home:

[asin]B000XQ9IZO[/asin]
Bought this in addition to the disc with the "Archduke". That sounds so freaking amazing that I regret not to have bought all volumes.
Well, there is always online ordering from Japan - have to look into that... 8)

[asin]B001HTX2PI[/asin]
I didn't know that Josef Suk also recorded the "viola sonatas" (alternative version of the clarinet sonatas).
Josef Suk must be (deservedly) much admired in Japan that they dug out this rarity! :)

[asin]B00RU0UDM8[/asin]
This came as a big surprise - I had struck gold in finding this Japanese issue of this long time OOP Schubert set by Staier! :D
Though it shouldn't have been a surprise, because when I started digging my memories I suddenly recalled Gordo mentioning this Japanese issue to me a few years ago.
I must have soon forgotten all about, assuming that there would be a (cheaper) international reissue soon. Well, it never came....  ::) (I sure it there will be one, now I finally got it... 8))

Notes to myself:
1. Listen to Gordo more attentively than I already do...  ;)
2. Check out Japanese sources for issue of OOP recordings, especially older/historical recordings.

While I am going to acquire the Machaut CD and the Peregrinato CD in all cases, I would also be interested to hear your impressions.

Nice to see a beautiful map of Sealand on the cover of the Buxtehude CD.

cdjapan has cheaper shipping than hmv.jp, and I found them very reliable in the past.

Purchased yesterday at Tower Records, Shibuya, Tokyo:

[asin]B00SRVC3HM[/asin]

[asin]B000AA4L82[/asin]

CDs in Japan (like everything else) cost an arm and a leg, so I had to restrict myself to discounted items.
I was also looking for a few OOP Japanese isued items. But with Japanese efficiency anything that stays too long on the shelve gets sold off in sales, so no luck on those items... :(

Not to buy the complete Beethoven Piano Trios with the Suk Trio when available is more than a crime, it is a mistake!  ;D ;D ;D

You guys are evil, right? Why do I need yet one more cycle of the Beethoven piano trios?

And yes, CDJapan is most reliable. I've been ordering there for a few years, usually take the cheapest shipping option (SAL, no tracking) and it takes 4-6 weeks for the parcels to arrive in yurp.

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

My copy arrived today.  So we now have a measure of how much slower US Customs is, compared to Canadian Customs.

That is good to read Karlo. Although I like Part's music that was a random purchase. I look forward to hearing the works on it.

Anyway, I was still able to find some nice morsels:  :D

PIZZETTI:  Fedra: Prelude  Cabiria - film music extract (1914)   Canti della stagione alta (Piano Concerto)
Robert-Schumann-Philharmonic    Oleg Caetani, cond.
and RANGSTROM: Symphony no.1 in c#    Swedish Radio S.O./Segerstam
Symphony no.3 in D#(surely not!!!  9 sharps in the key sig, 2 notes double-sharped!  what's wrong with the enharmonic E-flat???) "Song under the Stars   Helsingborg S.O./Fürst
The notes say nothing about that weird key, must be a typo of some sort.
google to the rescue - it's in D-flat.
