full listing - no Casadesus (a little too large to post here)
at http://www.goodwinshighend.com/music/classical/Szell/George%20Szell%2049%20CD%20Box%20Set.htm
for Szell & Casadesus see http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=57581

Thanks  :)  Once I compare it to the Szell discography, I'll have more to say.

Anyone see some sign of when the big Szell box might be released in the west?

At Importcds, I see two listings for the 49cd box, with the more expensive ($195) listed as Sony/'EU', and the somewhat cheaper one (~$155) listed as Sony/'Asia'; but per Importcds' habit, there is rather little other info given.  I haven't run across a Euro-American release listed at any of the more-helpful retail sites.

While we are dreaming aloud to the Sony gods, I would like to see a re-edition of Rachmaninov's own recordings on the piano.  There have already been two ~10cd editions that afaik cannot be had reasonably anymore.  It would be nice to have them all in one place.  I was impressed when I heard some.

One is presumably imported from Korea and the other imported from Europe where it was imported from Korea.  At that price point I would not spring for it, but if it gets properly released in the US I'd expect to see it for quite a bit cheaper.

I'm totally about to get that!  I've heard soaring recommendations for it---for both the music and the production---and not only at GMG.  What kind of price did you find?

Thread duty: fewer CPO items than I wanted, but decisions must be made:

My Verdi superbox from Vivace Classical will sadly be further delayed. Apparently the demand was higher than expected (and their discount too nice).

Amazon at least does not charge until dispatch, unlike Vivace.   >:(

[asin]B00AFOS8A0[/asin]

I am sorry to here about the delay.....
I ordered mine in March from amazon.co.uk, paid £127 and received it in 2 days! Anyway you are in for a real treat. I have said it twice and I'll say it again.....of all the super/mega boxsets that I own......performance wise this is the BEST! After all what boxset draws from the catalogue of EMI, DECCA,  and  DG!

The Symphonies
LSO / Bryden Thomson
Chandos

Had the 9th... wanted to know more about RVW under Thomson. Can't imagine it isn't better than the overrated Boult recordings... at least the EMI ones of which I like less with each different version I hear.

Cat-Dragging:

Glagolitic Mass, Taras Bulba
RSO Berlin, Janowski

It's running for about $35 shipped on Ebay.  I was talked into it by folks at another forum.  I knew joining was a mistake... :P

Indeed; CPO isn't a budget label.  Some of those choices do look very interesting, though.

Well, one wishes not to be presumptuous, but with the Rutter Requiem, question marks do arise! It's no gracious job to take a bone away from a dog, and I'm certainly not of the ilk that gets a rash from a well applied modern c-minor chord or a triad, but Rutter is irredeemable, pitiful rubbish.

So 1p plus post and packing is about right then :)

The worst Janacek CD I've ever heard, and I realize that's a sweeping statement. Just distressing.

It's a Classics Today CD from Hell: 3/7 "This just sucks" --Hurwitz

Is that so much Janacek that I need to start worrying? If so: Heck, better bad than mediocre.

It's not the interesting, perverse, goofy kind of bad; more the dull, soggy, do-I-still-like-Janacek kind. I wrote a long review, but got lazy and never sent it in...

Perks up head.
Remembers that he's liked everything he's heard from Letzbor.
Goes off to order it from Amazon MP.
ETA: and done, from I Deals for under $15
Thank you.
(BTW, do you know which label he's actually recording for now?  He's had recordings on Arcana, Pan, and Challenge all within the last couple of years it seems.)
