Very modest in comparison to king ubu's impressive haul (congratulations!  :) ), but this elusive OOP CD includes some works I do not know by the underappreciated composer Giacomo Manzoni, whose music I enjoy quite a bit:

RE Roi Ubu's haul--there's a Salomone Rossi CD I missed?!  Must correct that one before long.  I'll be interested in your opinion of it once you get to it (I did start a Rossi thread here  a couple of years ago.  Not that it's a very long or informative thread....)

Some very cheap prices at this time of the year !

Annerose Schmidt and Kurt Masur. A buck a disc !

I had no idea Strauss had composed symphonies before he embarked on his streak of tone poems. Extracts sound typically straussian, but is it top notch? I'm crossing my fingers.

I had no idea this classic version had been reissued. Eloquence Australia, of course!

I'm away from home, so no way to verify if I have the symphonies already, but I know I don't have the third disc of this set. I'm taking a chance, but at less than 5£, I'm ok with this.

Hah! It's good to see Mahler on your purchase list, though. :)

That was me. I still haven't listened to it, but I haven't forgotten. it's just been so busy. Maybe you'll get to it before I do!
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Not all, just the best !

That's what I like to think ... but Herreweghe Brahms 4th is a let-down - played the disc again yesterday, and in the evening heard the Tonhalle under Heras-Casado do it - clearly the winner amongst the two, Herreweghe doesn't seem to have much of a plan what to do with the music ... which is stuff that to my ears flows as nicely that I wonder why it even needs a conductor, but there you go!

@Jeffrey Smith: the Rossi is already here - I usually post here only when I have received the depicted items (does it bring bad luck to post pics in advance for items bought via marketplace from vendors you don't know if they're reliable? ;) ), haven't come around to listening yet and it may be a while. But I actually remember your thread (and have just recently played the Glossa disc again, while in Mantova).

Nice one... especially the Dove--he was completely new to me when I got that CD (not that I really have much else by him).

I know you're like me, and have enough music that new purchases may not get listened to for a while.  My backlog now is all opera---have some I got years ago that are still unplayed...but I am not usually in an opera mood now, and when I am I usually don't have the time available to listen to one (I prefer to hear it all at one go.  The only opera I've spread out over two days is Gotterdammerung, for obvious reasons.)

Good day, John!

;) Good day to you, Rafael. Well, I suppose I don't want to break a record with Le sacre recordings, so why not add another one? ;) One day I'll have to compile a list just to see how many Le sacre performances I own. Last time I did this, I counted around 45, but I'm sure that number is quite different now. Also, I'm a fan of Petrenko's conducting, so it'll be exciting to hear what he does with this much-recorded masterwork. ClassicsToday gave it 10/10 stating "No matter how many Rite of Spring recordings you possess, you should not miss this one."

This will be my first encounter with Dove's music even though I've read about him and have heard his name for many years now.

Well, it is a great work... :)

If you ever feel short of Sacre recordings, you can still get a total of 48 recordings in two handy sets:

I explored the evil, evil "buy 3 pay 2" sale ... ends tonight (I guess in around 3 hours from this post) - some good stuff there:
https://www.amazon.de/b?node=13826746031
Go for "CDs & Vinyl" for music, then narrow down by style or format ...

Includes some big suckers (such as the Callas live box) but I went for cheaper things that would not surpass the limit for customs fees applied as soon as taxes need to be paid - the taxes alone wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but the fees are).
