I discovered them through copies sent to me many years ago by one of our esteemed global moderators, whose modesty would suffer from being named here ;D. It really changed my mind about PI in Schubert chamber music.

Yes, PI in Schubert's chamber music is very appropriate and compelling when played with finesse such as forces like these are capable of.

While I love his beautiful songs, they are nevertheless more derivative than, say, songs by Schoeck. Don't you wish he composed more orchestral works instead of focusing mostly on lieder?

Absolutely! Being a symphonic fan, I wish he had composed a symphony for each season!  :)

Wow!  :)

That's a sweeeet looking order, Que.

Wise words from Que:

Never waste a good reason for a purchase....  ;)

This may be my favourite of the Stratton Bull recordings.

Couldn't help myself.. :D

For instance, recordings by favourites like Amaryllis Dieltiens and Sergio Azzolini are hard to resist!

Your appreciation of the recording certainly weighed in on my decision.  :)
And that of Amazon's Giordano Bruno aka Gio...

It's the chant which makes it so good!

I used to be not such a fan of chant, but it adds to the experience if it is done right. :)

I like, for instance, the occasional chant  by the Egidius in the Leiden Choirbooks set.

Q

With chant, I think you need singers who are good at diction, good with words.

By the way, que, don't hesitate to get Egidius's Geerkhin de Hondt recording, I think it's sensational music and sensational performance.

Starting ordering again. A composer which music fascinates me.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Nocturnes and Cadenzas is also in that Lyrita British String Concertos set. (Presumably the same performance.) But not the Viola Concertino.

Right. I dithered a lot over purchasing that British String Concertos set, but since I have the Moeran (on Chandos), and the whole Hoddinott program appealed more, this prospect is receding somewhat. I may buy some - not all - of the remaining works elsewhere.

Not that I'm Ernest Andermet's No. 1 fan, but I recognise his importance and this comprehensive set might help to ingratiate myself with him. It  could be had for a song, it'll probably go OOP soon, and the selection of works interests me hugely (well, most of them). I'll probably keep it in my office to have some of my favourite music handy  ;).
