Sorry to hear that, John.

Well, as we say in Spain, "the misfortune of many is the consolation of the silly"  ;) , but my complete Debussy set failed to arrive yesterday, and seems to be lost somewhere between France and Spain (on top of the Pyrenees?  :D) . Amazon France still posts "expected delivery January 8th" on my order, and just says that articles may occasionally be delayed (but there's no update of where the package actually is).  >:( :(

Thanks, Rafael. Sorry to hear about your Debussy mishap. This has always been a part of my fear of ordering overseas since there's no way to track your package. In the US, we have a pretty efficient system I must say even though the carriers are occasionally negligent and don't delivery a package exactly on time. It's at this juncture where an email or, often in my case, a conversation in a chatbox with an Amazon customer service representative, does some good as usually just go ahead refund the shipping cost. :)

I could no longer resist:

It's unavoidable that I'll get much duplication in terms of the orchestral music, but I don't own any of the solo piano music, songs, and the chamber music, outside of the SQs, is poorly represented in my collection. Also, the choral works (w/ the notable exception of Cantata Profana and perhaps a few smaller works) aren't in my collection.

Well, sorry to hear that, Rafael, and hope you get it soon but, just out of curiosity, why did you order it with amazon.fr? Was it cheaper than on amazon.es? Now the price for that set is aligned, at about € 65-70, in the various amazons of the € zone.

Well, they say it'll be delivered today. But I must say that since amazon switched from the "usual" delivery services (UPS, FedEx, MRW, Seur, etc) to Amazon Logistics, deliveries have become a bit more random. Furthermore, with the traditional services, if you were not at home, you could ask them to deposit your package at any of the service points nearby and collect it at your convenience. Amazon Logistics seems not to offer this possibility.

I bought the set from France because I preordered it in November when I saw a price (€65) which seemed more attractive than anywhere else, and the Spanish site (which is still a bit behind its counterparts) does usually not offer the possibility to preorder. When the set was released, they wer still asking €76 foir it in Spain (only now do I see the price down to what you indicate).

Are you enjoying your set, Gio?

THREAD DUTY:

I've always had a soft spot for Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari's goldonian comedies, and when I saw a new copy of this long OOP recording of Le donne curiose, I went for it (even if I intend to significantly cut back on purchases this year  :-[).

The sound is supposed to be dismal (it usually is with these Mondo Musica issues from La Fenice), but AFAIK this is the only available recording in the original Italian.

Regards,

Here it's a bit different. I'm happier now with Amazon Logistics than before, when some local and pretty unreliable delivery services were used from time to time. I'm not speaking of the big ones such as DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc. Never I had anything to complain when a big one was involved. And now if I want I can pick up my parcel at the closest post office, they made an agreement with Poste Italiane.

Enjoying my set? I'm still in the tag & rip phase...unfortunately all the 33 CDs seem to be edited from scratch, as if they were all brand new releases, so no information at all on the online CDDBs. It's a long work...

Harry

I am still thinking about these CD'S not yet released. To order or not!?

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Bought this OOP recording of a Sibelian rarity:

Of course, Vänskä has recorded the complete version of The Tempest, but it'll be nice to have Saraste's take on it as well. The other recordings of The Tempest are all in suite form (two suites to be exact) with some truly atmospheric, alluring music missing from it.

Outside of the Langgaard SQ recordings (w/ the Nightingale Quartet), this recording is my favorite recording of his music. Music of the Spheres is a masterpiece IMHO.

That's good for you ... DHL in Switzerland is THE WORST EVER (in fake Trump voice, but the statement isn't fake I'm afraid). However, the origin of parcels when you order from any european amazon site will not be linked with the site you use, in my experience - this one, ordered from .fr, was delivered from the UK yesterday:

[asin]8469729977[/asin]
That's quite rare, but orders via .fr, .it or .de (I used .es only about three or four times, co.uk more often) usually come from Germany (where they have huge warehouses).

Arrived today: Beethoven's Triple Concerto with Carmignola, Gabetta and Lazic, Antonini conducting the Kammerorchester Basel. Three overtures fill out the CD.

Just bought:

I definitely bought this recording for the SQ, "Voces Intimae" as I only had one other recording of it. A masterwork IMHO.

I am listening to that Copland CD even as I type this. I predict positive results.
