A trio of downloads, the Saint-Saens in high res because it was only $2 more than a CD.

High-res doesn't mean any better audio quality than CD. It's a way to milk more money out of those who don't understand digital audio. You save money and storage space by accepting 16/44.1 digital audio without any lose in subjective quality.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

The Oxfam Media Store in Farnham is a favourite haunt with a large selection of both LPs and CDs I have never heard of either "Wallenstein" or "Istar" is anyone familiar with these pieces? I also purchased both Previn's and Handley's RVW "London" Symphony and a selection of works by Parry for violin and piano on Hyperion. All on LP, but for £2 I could not resist a Naxos CD of two string quartets and a string trio by Moeran from the Maggini String Quartet. I have read good reviews on the Maggini SQ although not heard them.

You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

I have works by both Bax and Elgar played by the Maggini String Quartet and I like them. I hope that you enjoy the Moeran. Please post any thoughts when you eventually get to hear the CD.

Istar is one of d'Indy's most colourful works, a real delight. These performances under Dervaux are excellent.

That is good to hear. Thanks.

aligreto, I will post my thoughts. In particular I am looking forward to the String Trio which is I believe an important Moeran work.

Subjective quality indeed.....
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

What about objective quality?

My first time using junglesearch to peruse budget but not Add-on discs at Amazon.  I now have four of Kubelik's Audite Mahler symphonies, and the Switala is a modern instrument version of an identical period instrument disc.

Any guidance for how to make Junglesearch actually filter a search? I just tried it for the first time. Selected "CDs & Vinyl" on the left, put in a search term on the right, selected 40% off or better, and checked the "Eligible for Prime" box. It returned 981 results, but Amazon showed that "Eligible for Prime" was not checked, so I checked it using Amazon's interface, and it went down to 200ish items. When I went back to Junglesearch and changed the 40% off filter to any other percentage, there were still 981 results. So...I don't see that it was doing anything at all.

I'm not too impressed with the tests that have been done.

Speaking for myself, I do like having files in the original sample rate when it's not too expensive.  I also refuse to buy MP3s.
