You are not alone. A lot of people agree with you, but that doesn't mean you are right. That's why I am educating people here.

Help my memory out here... are you the same person who, a couple of years ago, was angrily demanding refunds on downloads (I think from Presto Classical) that you considered not up to the advertised standard until a few of us explained your understanding of the terminology was flawed?

I have a suspicion that you are. Apologies if you are not.

I'm not who you think I am. I have never downloaded anything from Presto or demanded refunds on downloads. I very rarely even do downloads because I am a physical media guy (CD/SACD). No need to apologize. Mistakes happen.  ;)

Dammit. My memory is failing. My reputation for trivia nights is at stake.

Maybe it was someone with a similar nickname?

It was Toccata and Fugue, if I am recalling the same occasion.

The issue was a little more complicated than terminology. It was a high rez download that some sort of audio analyzer categorized as a reprocessed mp3.

Finally fell off the wagon.

Looking at the list of repertoire, I couldn't resist. And I have a big box from other lesser cellists, so it's seems overdue. An early Christmas present. I'm afraid the DG box is next.

Purchase was precipitated by a sudden price drop on Amazon.com, from about $120 to $82. Still at the price point...

New composer that is so so.

I just purchased the following recording of a new composer for me, John Robertson.  He is a Canadian composer who is originally from New Zealand.  His music is not bad but for me it is only 6 on a scale of 1 to 10.

I can see that many of you may like his music more that I do.  Check it out on YouTube and see for yourselves.

I picked up Kubelik's Audite Mahler 6 last week, and I felt like doing a compare and contrast with something else new to me, so I figured I might as well finally try something from Teodor Currentzis and so I bought a high res download.

Why buy SACDs if CDs are good enough?  Don't quite understand your logic.

SACDs have often multichannel support and often hybrid SACD is all there is (e.g. BIS)

I have just ordered, and I trust it won't be cancelled, a SH copy of this box set for the princely sum of £14.90 incl P&P. I really don't care what condition the box is in as long as the discs are ok.

It may seem an odd choice for someone who already has an extensive collection but it offers me an opportunity to get some recordings that have long been gathering dust in a wish list but have never quite made it to the top - I reckon about 17 discs worth!

Including Bernstein's Vienna Schumann recordings - not everyone's taste but at the price why not.

Who's the guy on the upper-right corner? Looks like Anton Webern to me but I can't remember any great symphony of his.  :)

I believe you are correct it does look like Anton Webern - I imagine the Symphony will be his Op 21 recorded by Boulez.

It's greatness is a matter of debate I would suspect!

The new erato

Webern's symphony op 21 is small but pretty great.

Florestan

Ah, I forgot about his op. 21. Well, I didn't --- and don't --- mean to be disparaging, it's just that in my book he sonehow does not belong with the others on the cover when it comes to symphonies.    0:)

Not one to be associated with large forms, which in his case wasn't the case.  ;).
