That's the Turn of the Screw version I listened to a couple of months ago. Very impressive. Even the booklet notes are outstanding IMO.

Excellent to read, Andre. Bedford is usually excellent in Britten's music, so I'm anxious to hear how he does in The Turn of the Screw (which seems to be a favorite here on GMG).

I found a used CD store (remember those?) in a city south of me, so I dropped by and they didn't really have a lot I was interested in (their classical selection mostly was comprised of those 'greatest hits' type of compilations), but I did stumble on this and bought it:

There's still a lot of great used stores in Atlanta man, come on down sometime. That's a good find!

Confession time: I hate the big city and Atlanta is no exception. The traffic there alone is enough to make one a nervous wreck.

I thought I ought to buy a few more CDs that weren't Schnittke ::).

Outstanding choices, both. The Ligeti box set was one of my favorite purchases about 10 years ago or so. It originally had the Teldec logo on it not the Warner Classics.

Fair enough ;D Living in the city has its pros and cons, with great record stores being one of the former and godawful traffic being among the latter.

Wow, I can't believe how cheaply that Ligeti Project is going for, $3 used on Amazon. If I wasn't already broke from spending so much money on CDs I'd snag a copy now. Hell, I might do it anyway.  ::)

Yes, indeed. The Ligeti Project box set is well worth your consideration. If you love Ligeti, then it's pretty much self-recommending.

You have to have that Ligeti Project box. And also the complementary Sony box, which has been reissued as one of their white box budget sets.

I checked out the MP3 samples of the Ligeti Project box and would have bought it at the price for CD 1 alone. This seems to be a "best of" box but one of the Sony box reviewers makes that sound more of a "worst of" so I'm leaving it for now.

Oh, no the Sony box is definitely not a 'worst of' box set. The SQs and solo piano music alone make this box set a must have, IMHO.

They are actually not a "best of" set but an "everything the man wrote" box. If you have the two sets, you will have almost everything Ligeti composed. The exceptions being, IIRC, some very late piano etudes.

Which were left unfinished as the composer was sure to add more to it and create a 'book'.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll wait until I've absorbed The Ligeti Project as the Sony "Masterworks of the 20th Century" box has remained on sale new for a few years at a comparable price so this one should be around for a while too. I suppose the record companies are getting what they can out of their back catalogues with these cheap boxes.

I'm not trying to persuade you into buying this Sony box set, but this particular set most definitely will not be around for a long-time. Sony, as with the other major labels, have a tendency to put these budget priced sets out and then not long after delete them. Yes, they're cheap now, but once it goes out-of-print, the price rises to ridiculous amounts. One thing is for certain, if my own experience in watching these box sets go in and out-of-print is of any help, that another issue will be availability after some years have gone by and the cycle repeats itself over and over.

Ah, right. Maybe they make a load then let them all sell out. I see my older Pierre Henry box, "Odysee" from 2012 has gone unavailable although there are still copies of the "Polyphonies" box from last year.

Thanks to Jeffrey's advice, the first batch of Lyrita CD'S. Going somewhat slowly, but surely, more to come later, when I have a bit more time to search.

Nice haul, Especially Kuhnau, so far I bought the whole series and await with some eagerness the following releases.
Also curious what you make of the Cirri disc, I still have my doubts about performance.

Thanks, bought the Kuhnau because of your recommendation.  :)
Will check out the Cirri and report.

And I bought a whole boxset with your picture on it!  :D
