It doesn't have much meaning to post such selections without context such as which recordings constitutes the whole set of this sub-set or what were my criteria, etc. But despite not being in my scope anymore these are better Elgar Naxos releases. These make me remember the times we were fighting for detecting the best couplings to be budget-efficient...

The quintet not the quartet on Maggini's and I guess Lloyd-Jones's Falstaff is just a very little bit lesser than Boult's (one of the 4 great B's  ::) )

No need for these... and they are distorting  :)

This is alos true.

Plus, let's be honest, folks: not everything we post is worth preserving for posterity, even one as small and limited as GMG's. (I think I've said it before but it's a point worth stressing.)  :D

Well, this is true, but I do understand the frustrations of a post being deleted, but, at the same time, I don't think it's something worth leaving over.

And to you as well, Erato! :)

Interestingly enough, Brian. I ended up cancelling the BIS and ordered this one:

One of the main reasons is I like the way Naxos recorded the piano. It sounds like it has a touch more reverb compared to the sound piano sound on the Knardahl recordings. Also, the sound on the Knardahl recordings were too wayward in the mix and I don't like that up-close type of sound.

This is a very good choice, I have that set too, but this said Knardahl is worth its money too, for she adds a bit more passion, and a slightly different approach.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Hope you enjoy it! It's a little detail, but I also like the packaging of this, with vibrant pictures of Norwegian fjords on every CD sleeve (vs. plain paper on BIS).

Assuming that you know what and how others think might frequently disappoint you. ;)

I've always thought that nothing we write here is of any importance whatsoever in the real world and life. We are a bunch of anonymous people posting in an inconsequential internet board. Why anything posted here should be taken so seriously as to get angry and resentful and retort (things of which I've been guilty big time, multiple times and and which I always came to regret) or as to even leave it for good, is beyond me.  :D

Beside, there are people out there who right now are being killed in vicious wars, starving, dying of cold or thirst or disease, or barely making a miserable living --- and we quarrel about whether Naxos is better than EMI, or whether FLAC is better than 320 mp3, or whether TRump is a fascist or not. I, mean, really?  ???

So, peace, brothers and sisters! Let's just live and let live.  8)  :-*

Isn't there a regulation for drinking and posting?  :)

Hey, I'm currently only on the third beer, I'm not drunk. Trust me, you wouldn't want to know what I'm capable of when really drunk.  >:D :P

Here's to your health!

I cannot see any sense, if you are upset about a post deletion, in responding with an account deletion.

That doesn't say "I'm against deletion". It says "that's not a deletion, THIS is a deletion" and just looks like an attempt to show the moderators that you're far better at deletion than they are.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Just to throw another Grieg pianist into the discussion - about a half dozen or more years ago, we heard Antonio Pompa-Baldi as a guest pianist at our local symphony - he was outstanding (played a Grieg piece as an encore); then in reviewing his recordings he was doing the Grieg piano works for Centaur - ended up w/ 11 CDs + another of the concerto - I was collecting the Naxos discs and some others but decided to go w/ Pompa-Baldi - Centaur has not boxed these up and I have 10 CDs (gathered from BRO & the Amazon used MP to save some cash; 2 inserted above) - he is excellent (just could find a couple of reviews which are attached) - his recordings of Grieg need to be boxed and offered at a competitive price by Centaur - believe that he would enter the mix of discussion on which performer to buy for this music, but just my 2 cents.  Dave :)

Very nice, Dave. Thanks for the feedback. There's more Grieg solo piano recordings out there than I realized.

Even keeping up with the few threads I follow on a regular basis can be time consuming.  Especially during the holidays.

Well Santa has been nice to me.  Received the following:

One last hurrah for 2020 !

To replace my long gone Lps...

That will complete my collection of the Lajtha symphonies.

Beethoven transcribed by Ferdinand Ries.

Already have them, but this is the latest on those P&F from a pianist I really like.

That Beethoven is a nice recording.

You were missing Lajtha's most striking symphonies. He's an incredible composer in my book.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL more than ever!
