Harry

On this sunny Monday afternoon I ordered some CD's, just for the fun of it. :laugh:
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Harry

And a few more
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Aren't those first two in the Chandos Jarvi set?  [Which I may be pulling the trigger on in the next couple of days.]

The Wagner CD is a nice one, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't already have a recording of those symphonies.

I picked up my copy of the Orpheus CO set earlier this morning.

Yes they are, but I bought the SACD versions of it.
I did not have the Wagner Symphonies, and this is also A SACD version. :)

Ah!  With my cheapie anti-audiophile CD player such complications don't arise.

Well, if you see me post that set, you'll know the "blame" goes to you.😁

I will stand firm :laugh:

The normal CD's sound fine too

My girlfriend is sick and tired of me buying all these big box sets, and then unfortunately the Amazon guy delivered it Friday night after she got home, along with some birthday presents my aunt sent me. (My birthday is Tuesday.) And then I thought, aha! I can escape the blame! And said that they were all presents from my aunt. (My aunt just goes to my wishlist on Amazon and orders the top two things, regardless of what they are.) Now I'm waiting to open the Orpheus box til tomorrow, so that is a price to pay, but at least it will look like I wasn't doing the shopping.  ;D

I rejoice in the success of your subterfuge. Does that make me a shady person?....

It's not a particularly big box set.
If they worked it for you as they did for me, they simply put the small unopened freight carton from DG's distribution site containing one set into a bigger Amazon carton and sent it on to me.

My only true monster (75+) boxes are the Rubinstein and Szell. Already had to hide Bonynge and Casadesus in the closet behind my shirts  ;D

Brian's personal anecdote reminds me of something my dad asked me the other day: "Why is it each time you bring me something to look at it's a new CD?" :P I just shrugged my shoulders. :)

I think Brian with all due respect, that maybe you should be on the lookout for a new girlfriend. :laugh:
Sooner or later she will get so angry about all those mega boxes you purchase, that an ultimate will be issued on your doorstep, to choose between her or music in the form of piles of CD's. 8)

;D it is only a matter of storage, she likes almost all of the music! Same with all the wine I buy...it takes up space but she enjoys the product.  8)

It did occur to me after my first comment that when your birthday approaches next year, make sure your list is arranged so the two most expensive things will be at the top. Then you need not fear the fury of your girlfriend.😈

350 days from now, my #1 wish item mysteriously changes from a random cookbook to Complete Leonard Bernstein on DG

Meanwhile, here in Woburn, Wonder of the North: I had ordered the Herrmann on 22 June, the Orpheus on 24 June. As I noted earlier, the Orphic delivery was pushed out to August's end. I was (up until this morning) expecting Herrmann today As of this afternoon, I wait until 5 or 6 Sep for Herrmann, but now I can expect the OCO this Thursday. Of course, I am still working through the Stravinsky and Heidsieck boxes, so I do not want for listening.

On my side, it's all cool (and of course, lately there's been Henri in the mix.)
