I had this set for many years now, and still consider it quite good. Lots of enjoyment along the road!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

I had only his later set, the one with the Berlin PO but the general consensus seems to be that the ECO is superior.

A few more today:

Pounds the table! For me, this is one of Davis' crowning achievements (his other being his Berlioz cycle on Philips).

That one I already had, John.

Good evening, John!

I've just ordered these from Musicexport (an Amazon MP seller from Greece that has an excellent service, a wide catalogue and competitive prices):

Pre-ordered, as it'll be released in early May.

And a good evening to you as well, Rafael. 8) Some lovely looking purchases there.

Isang Yun was a stupendous composer in my view. You really can feel a Korean feel to the music. His musical idiom never seems impenetrable, on the contrary, it hooks you. He's been a quite good discovery to me in the last years.

Easily my favourite Asian composer. His instrumental and chamber music have a hypnotic quality I haven't found elsewhere.

I'll put in another word for Davis's first Sibelius cycle! Probably my favorite one overall.

TD: Ordered from Amazon MP and eBay:

Excited for it all, but especially for the Saint-Saens Piano Concerti, works that I absolutely adore! ;D

So much great music, so little time...

Nice haul, CG. 8) Falla and Saint-Saëns are great favorites of mine. I don't know those recordings of the S-S PCs with Lortie/Gardner, but I can vouch for those Falla recordings --- they're excellent.

Brian

I'm the opposite of Mirror Image. Lortie's CSS cycle is as good as it gets. Really fun and exciting and virtuosic.

Ah yes, I recall you are a fan of Yun's music, André. If you could pick one work from Yun that you feel is a good introduction to his music, what would it be?

Just wanted to say that I absolutely adore how often classical music albums use gorgeous paintings or ilustrations, ones that I very often didn't know before, and which sometimes are just breathtaking. This is half of the joy of looking at the "New purchases", "New releases" or "what are you listening to" threads to me.

Gielen Edition Vol.X

An interesting recent release, and with good sound and playing, judging from the samples.
I had a good deal of the stuff, but not the works by Gielen, Cage, Lopez, Kagel and Crumb, plus one of the Nono works (I have looked for that famous Nonesuch Cage piano concerto LP in vain for a very long time).

Could be paid with gift cards, except the postage.

One work: Glissées ('slides', or 'slips') for cello solo. It can be found on a few discs, including this excellent 2-cd set:

An excellent overview at a very good price.
