There is a serious and fundamental flaw with that CD:
It doesn't have the other two.

Thread duty:
just ordered this.  If Arkivmusic ever goes out of business, it won't be my fault (although I certainly get my money's worth out of their VIP shipping program)

Notes: the Messiah recording is the Mozart edition, which I've never heard; it will be at least an interesting curiousity.   Also, according to the Musicweb review Arkivmusic uses as a blurb for the Goerne recording,  there will be one more installment in his Schubert series, to be released towards the end of this year.
As for the Manzart, I am a recovering completist.  :D

The Prokofiev I swore I wouldn't buy arrived today  ;D  Also in the mailbox, a Knappertsbusch disc pointed out by Bogey in the Haydn thread, featuring a bizzarely conducted (by modern HIP standards) No.100 Military.

Kudos for reminding me about that Max d'Ollone recording with Foster, listener. Excellent music.

Just bought:

I don't own much Dukas at all (not that he composed a lot of music to begin with), so this Tortelier set looked like a safe bet.

Hope it goes down better seccond time around... if I were allowed only one Bryars disc, this one would be a no-brainer.

It's good to hear you say this; I heard some things from him in the intervening time that made me want to give it another whirl.  The only thing by him that's spurred active dislike from me was the Piano Concerto on Naxos, but I have no case for the hate...it was one spin at a friend's house a couple years back.

I am a fan of that one as well.  I also really liked Manze/Egarr's single disc of some Mozart violin sonatas....delectable.  That is a whole body of music (his violin sonatas) that I intend to explore very soon.

Parry/Stanford: SONGS OF FAREWELL etc (choral works) [Trinity/Marlow] (Conifer)
I am certain I own someone here thanks for pointing me to this one, but now I cannot find the reference.

An odd but interesting couple, I picked up at a flea market. Boxes were scruffy but the discs looked unplayed.

I will tell you guys (and girls?)  the interesting particulars on these recordsings later....  8)

Is the VIP shopping like Amazon Prime, free fast shipping?
Yes.  But Arkiv's regular shipping practices are usually fast anyway: the order I posted  the other day (Horowitz and Company) is waiting at the post office for me to pick up on Monday, since I wasn't home this morning when the postwoman attempted delivery.  A slow delivery from Arkiv usually equates to a full week from shipping date.   Whereas Amazon can take several days to before the item even leaves the warehouse.

The only difference between VIP and normal shipping is the cost: $10US a year, which, when matched to Arkiv's normal shipping rates comes out to the shipping charge for 10 items; so effectively completely free shipping from item number 11 on.

I don't know how VIP shipping works for Canada or other places outside the US. Do be aware that in some states Arkiv charges sales tax, unlike Amazon and like Barnes and Noble (my state being one of them, unfortunately).  You can find the full list of taxed states on their website.

BTW,  I forget to post yesterday my purchase at Barnes and Noble's local store:  Buchbinder's set of the Beethoven PCs.  With coupon, it came out to about $17 including sales tax.

You will need a new table. And when you replace it, you will need another new one after that.
Buy the Brautigam, and you will be eating off the floor.

Not too keen on what I have heard of the Brautigam... The Buchbinder Haydn, on the other hand, is in the queue...

That is a good un (Buchbinder Haydn).  The Brautigam set has arrived, but I have not listened to any of it yet.
