I ordered these from europadisc. Harry's newfound enthusiasm reminded me that I don't have the complete Arnell series:

Naxos 8573098: Hummel - Piano Trios Vol.1
Dutton - Epoch CDLX7194:  Arnell - Symphonies Nos 4 & 5
Naxos 8573243: Villa-Lobos - Symphony No.10 'Amerindia'

Wonderful, Finally somebody that likes the composer Richard Arnell too. Apart from the SQ, which I do not like that much, I have all what is recorded from Arnell by Dutton.
And it reminds me that I have to listen to them all again.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

I have quite a few of them already. But though I like Arnell a lot, I believe I like what I have heard from Dutton's Stanley Bate discs even better.

I have all from Stanley Bate too, and although I like him, Arnell stays firmly on top for me!

Somehow I have managed to avoid Johann Schelle. I don't think I have one second of his music..  ???

That ought to be a first class disc. Where did you source it?

Quote from: Cosi bel do on November 04, 2014, 02:07:19 AMI can't say the same about Kertész. I mean, it's a nice, cozy, pleasant, comfy version, and superbly recorded. But there's more to Bluebeard's Castle than that.  I prefer Boulez with Troyanos and Nimsgern (CBS/Sony). And, above all, there's a 1981 performance with the same singers and the NYP conducted by Rafael Kubelik that sweeps any competition (the issue being if you listen to it a few times, you might have difficulties hearing any other version afterwards).

Well, you're certainly in the minority with Kertesz's Bluebeard. Every Bartokian I've spoken with either on Amazon, here, Talk Classical, wherever, rates this performance very highly and with good reason: it's eerily gorgeous. Every musical phrase is handled with absolute care and Ludwig/Berry are at the top of their game in every respect. I like the Boulez on Sony a lot as well. I probably own around 10 or 11 performances of this masterpiece on disc. The Eotvos on Hanssler is another good one IMHO.

So, yes, I'm well aware there's more to Bluebeard than one recording, but I still pick Kertesz above them all. :)

Well, good, I'll be happy to read your impressions about the opera 8)
I don't own this version either, you've found kind of a rarity (but I've heard good things about it).

If I remember correctly I felt the same way, but was long ago, I should give them a re-listen.

Well, if you ask me, I'll have very nice thing to say about Kertész, which remains one of the best versions for sure. But I don't think it is the absolutely best. Of course I know most magazines etc. usually mention Kertész as the reference recording.

Got these two in the mailbox today:
Looks like you are ready for winter hibernation in your listening room! My Bernstein box should be arriving in 4-5 days. I love the Wand so far but have not explored much of it at all - dipped into the Schubert and Schumann and got happily stuck there.

I recently received the Seon box, and the Ansermet French Music and the Rosen piano box is on the way as well......played the Schubert 9 + the Bruckner 1 (long time, no see on that one) from the Wand this evening.

Ordered this afternoon from jpc.de:

Some time ago I purchased the last set as lossless files, but now I'm aware I need the real thing.  :)

Thought the same! Here, luckily, one day brought the Messiaen and the next the Kraus (and hopefully the Bernstein soon, too, though I will have to pick up that one at the post office as it will cost plenty 'o moronic taxes and fees), otherwise it wouldn't have fit in. Boxes of Wand size need to be picked up at the post office, unless I happen to be home at the right moment by accident.

EDIT: I just saw this on the back of the box: "New York Philharmonic - four improvisations by the orchestra"

What?!

But there's one thing we can agree on and that's this opera is magnificent. 8)
