Pounds the table! Fantastic buys, Ilaria! Merry Christmas!

Thank you, Merry Christmas to you too, John! I see you're buying a lot of Rach's music, that's wonderful!

This is a no-brainer as Chandos' first Petrassi release was a revelation and one of the best discs of the year for me.

Thanks for pointing out. ;)

Yes, what can I say? Rachmaninov has a way of getting under the skin. Such gorgeous music.

I couldn't resist this set any longer. I don't have much Faure in my collection and this seemed like a good idea to get a whole lot of his music at an affordable price.

I was doing fine at not buying CDs. Now I saw this for £0.01 + £1.82 for shipping = £1.83:

The seller tells the disc (used) has a few tiny cratches on the surfice. If it skips in my player, I can try and fix it with toothpaste.
I didn't have Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto before this.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

A fine performance!

Thanks MI for this post !

I wasn't aware of that compilation and upon reading its contents (by no means tutto Fauré? I suppose )  I realize I have precious little of its music. The inclusion of an inferior Requiem is not a deterrent. Who hasn't listened to half a dozen others, of all persuasions ?

Its has been so ordered !

Cool, Andre. Glad I could help. 8) As for this performance of his Requiem being inferior, I'll let you know. I like Colin Davis' conducting usually (unless he's grunting so audibly loud to the point that it ruins a recording). I bought this set mainly for the chamber music and sacred music. I need to re-evaluate Faure's orchestral music as well which I had previously written off as being a bit on the dull side. Definitely keeping my ears attuned to finding some more gems along the way.

They really went off the beaten path with many of these recordings, especially chamber music: Jacqueline Eymar/Kher Quartet, Loewenguth Quartet, Thomas Igloi in cello sonatas ... could prove to be some real finds, but could also be rightly forgotten. Penelope has promising cast, but again it's live probably mono recording from 50s.

Very nice, erato. I have yet to even start exploring that set. So much music, so little time.

The new erato

I have much Poulenc in my collection already, but this set covers some missing ground in piano music, choral music and some other odds and end and will supplement my collection nicely.  I have been waiting for a good price on this for some time. Threw in a couple of the Who albums as well.  :D

Hah, cool, erato. 8) I hope you enjoy the music. Like you, I have a pretty good sized Poulenc collection already, but this set did fill in some gaps.

Two purchases today (at my local brick-and-mortar shop), at quite opposed ends of the repertoire:

Chamber music by Florent Schmitt - the long Piano quintet from 1905, and the much later Hasards for piano quartet

I've long been an admirer of Diego Ortiz's Recercadas del tratado de glosas--an absolute masterpiece, IMHO--, so the chance to sample his choral music was not to be missed...
