Cycle #86 is now complete.  The rest of Takahiro Sonoda's Evica cycle arrived today, capping off what is now the most expensive cycle I own.  (If I average the price of this and his Denon set, it's not quite so bad on per-set basis, though.)  I have pretty high expectations, though I doubt it enters my Top Ten.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

I ordered this from amazon.it:

This is CD (not SACD as the single discs) and the documentation reputedly is nonexistent, but at less than 1/3 the price of collecting the single discs, this will have to do.

It's been a great day so far and then my package arrived! Very excited with this one...

Had this one on my wishlist since Harry and others mentioned it here. While I was at it, got this one too:
[asin]B00JS3Y9LG[/asin]
Maybe it's overkill, but looks great.

Then, some months ago, someone posted about a group called Acronym. The clips sounded great and the cover was cool, so I decided to get all three releases.
[asin]B00I0VTNVS[/asin]
[asin]B00I0VTP48[/asin]
[asin]B00T3IQHDY[/asin]

I finally picked up the last Haydn box with Manfred Huss. The others have all been marvelous and this one sounded just as good:
[asin]B004H38WUQ[/asin]

And since I was at it, finally got that Biber box:
[asin]B00E59ZRS2[/asin]

And I liked the Freiburger box so much, I got another disc from them:
[asin]B008HC9A4A[/asin]
Very excited to explore all this early music.

Then I got a few more to round out the order:
[asin]B00925TAQO[/asin]
[asin]B00I4TFT0A[/asin]
[asin]B00MJL91GW[/asin]

And that will be it until at least the fall.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

That Brull CD was a nice discovery for me.

All of them very good buys, not one of them without huge musical merits. Well done!
The Brull is certainly on my wishlist too!
You have a wonderful listening time to look forward to!

Not even recording dates ... if anyone can provide some info, I'd appreciate it a lot!

Well the release dates of the single issues should be easy to find. And since they all are from the last 6-8 years, I cannot see how that information is particularly important?

They were recorded between 2005 and 2009. These are fantastic recordings! I have Vol.s 1, 2 and 3 on individual SACDs. I never got around to buying the others as they were just too expensive and I had other priorities. I was hoping they would release them complete as a box set someday and now my wish has came true! Thanks for sharing!

Walked into Half Price Books today, and saw this gem on the shelf, sealed/new for $19.99. I had a 10% off coupon and on top of that they were giving away a $5 off coupon to be used at a later date with the purchase of a $25 gift card, which I bought and then promptly used to purchase this. So technically I got it for under $15 including tax... amazing! To think that I probably paid more then that for a single Philips CD of Brendel over 15 years ago!  ???

This is not the complete Vox/Vanguard recordings on Brilliant but a more condensed 23 CD version with all of his Mozart/Beethoven recordings (I think) plus one Haydn Concerto. At $15 for this vs. the nearly $100 price (as of this writing) for the complete 35 CD set on Amazon, I don't think I'll lose any sleep over not having the other 12 CD's.

The notes on the outside of the box are a bit quirky. They read - "Until his retirement in 2009, Alfred Brendel was renowned the world over for his astery (what's that?) of the Classical repertoire that pushed forwards the boundaries of the piano at the turn of the century (which century?). Here are his early recordings of these subtle and dramatic concertos and sonatas, all stereo and all as fresh and dynamic in impact as when they were recorded 50 years ago".

First off, it had been 57 years since these were recorded from the date of this sets release if the dates of 1955-1975 are correct. Secondly, if some of these recordings are indeed from 1955 they can't all possibly be in stereo, as only big time labels like RCA and Mercury were experimenting and recording in stereo at the time and not the likes of Vox/Vanguard to the best of my knowledge. I know that Brendel's recording of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition on Vox/Vanguard from 1955 is in mono only.

At first glance it may look like something obscure having to do with stars (aster=star), but of course it's a typo; the mystery word is simply {m}astery.  ;D

Great deal you got there. That's why I still like to browse through the dwindling classical sections of the few remaining brick-and-mortar stores whenever I get the chance. That and the element of surprise.

Thanks. I knew it was a typo it's just funny. That must've been one helluva ass ol' Alfred had on him! These budget sets aren't exactly known for their accuracy of translations or providing the correct factual info.

These performances would be worth having on hissy mono with LP crackle, so don't be too cut up about it >.>

Having had good luck with Rheinberger's piano music and chamber music, I also ordred this at jpc (with corrent offers and a gift card the 10 CDs ended up at 36 euros):

I am interested in the De Lassus recording ( and series as it appears to be among) but cannot read the ensemble name because of the "AutoRip" patch (you can remove it from the image URL).  Now I see it is Odhecolon.

I am assuming you are not familiar with the cartoon character Odie Colongne?

It is the Italian ensemble Odhecaton (the spelling check probably got the better of you... 8))

No, the cartoon is completely unfamiliar to me... :D

Don't ask, but to me it is  ;)
