And preordered this set:

That looks interesting. I like Gielen in Mahler and it is not such a huge jump to Bruckner.

aligreto

I picked this one up quite cheaply....

Gielen in Bruckner was an idea I've always liked and I held back from buying any of his Bruckner recordings individually because I knew that one day his cycle will be available in a set. Looks like that day has finally come. ;) ;D

Good for you; I hope that you enjoy it. I may well follow you in time with this one  :)

I think Gielen is very good in Bruckner 5 and 7. There are somewhat non-traditional, rather fleet, lean and transparent. The 6th is good but not that special. His 4th is the early version, probably one of the best (but I don't much like the piece). I was less fond of his 3 and 8 and have not heard 1,2 (those were never issued before) and 9.

So far in Elder's ongoing Sibelius cycle it's the Fifth that really impressed me (and I mean really impressed me, being absolutely splendid), the others not so much.

I think that you should enjoy that set. I have all in it but the Requiem and the music making is very fine.

Is that Polonaises CD a new one, or did I just miss it?
I have Lisiecki's Etudes, but have no particular opinion of it for good or ill.

Thanks, aligreto. I needed some Dvorak in my collection since my dad owns it all. Yes, from what I've heard so far, Kertesz is an excellent Dvorakian. I heard that symphonic poem set many years ago and I still recall a lot of it. Vivid and powerful performances of some remarkable music.

This music is highly appreciated by me. Many musical surprises.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

As much I like to order that set I wish they included the interesting couplings they included in the original single symphony releases. They easily could have fit them on this set  >:(

I do not have too much of Frescobaldi's music in my collection and I picked this one up cheaply....
