People continue to agree it was a fabulous party. In a garden marquee in summer.

When I heard it, it immediately struck a chord with me, and I can truly say it is one of my favorite string quartets.  She's gone on to write five more, I think, and is among the better young composers working today.

Intriguing stuff I must say. It reminded me of a piece by Salvatore Sciarrino I heard some months ago.

It should come as little surprise that there's quite a bit of overlap between mine and Cesar's lists:

Arnold: String Quartet No. 2
Atterberg: String Quartet No. 3 in D major
Beethoven: String Quartet No. 7 in F major, Op. 59/1
Britten: String Quartet No. 2
Dóhnanyi: String Quartet No. 3 in A minor
Dvořák: String Quartet No. 13 in G major
Ginastera: String Quartet No. 1
Grieg: String Quartet in G minor
Haydn: String Quartet in C major, Op. 20/2
Janáček: String Quartet No. 2 "Intimate Letters"
Nielsen: String Quartet No. 3 in E-flat major
Prokofiev:  String Quartet No. 2 in F major
Ravel:  String Quartet in F major
Schubert:  String Quartet No. 15 in G major
Schumann: String Quartet No. 3 in A major
Smetana:  String Quartet No. 1 "From My Life"

Oops, that's 16 - can't count, sorry!

Great minds think alike...

From your list (stupendous as the others', btw), I've managed to hear the Beethoven, Dvorak, Prokofiev, Ravel, Schubert and Schumann live (plus Bartók's 5th from my list), so those experiences cemented my love for them (the Prokofiev would surely be in my next 15 favorites). Live concerts make a definitive impression.
