Hi everyone,

I'm Rob. I live in Chicago and I love classical music. It's been
my favorite kind of music for the last 15 years or so. I
typically listen for hours every day, though I'm certainly no
expert. I guess that my tastes are currently pretty
conservative. Here's a stab at a top ten list of composers:

Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Schubert, Dvorak, Haydn, Tchaikovsky,
Berlioz, Prokoviev, Rachmaninov

Anyway, this looks like a nice forum. I'm hoping to broaden my
horizons in terms of types of music as well as specific
recordings. I look forward to meeting you.

Welcome Rob. Plenty of composers there to discuss and in no time you will be selling the cat and buying your 11th version of Bruckner Complete Symphonies. The search engine will certainly find you some threads on your favourite composers.

Welcome, Rob. Please make yourself at home.  :)

Plenty of things to discuss and to discover. Mind your bank account - it is probably going to see rough times... 8)

Greetings and welcome!

Chicago is a great city, with many great musical ensembles. My brother plays in the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grant Park Symphony and Chicago Philharmonic. Have you seen any good concerts lately, Rob?

Hello, Rob, and welcome. Re: "conservative," it's not as if those composers are popular for no reason! Hope you enjoy yourself here.

The music scene is one of the best parts of living in Chicago. The most recent concert I saw was a few months ago. The Staatskapelle Dresden played Brahms' 4th Symphony and Violin Concerto (with Lisa Batiashvili on violin). That was a lot of fun. It was my 8 year old son's first real concert. I used to have season tickets to the Lyric Opera as well as the CSO, so maybe I saw your brother play. Back in the distant past (grad school), I used to get student discounted tickets for lots of shows. Recently family and job result in me having much less time to attend concerts, but it's something I should do more of.

That's cool about the Dresden concert! Great first one to attend.  8)
