They really sound like 20th century music if you play them all at the same time...     >:D
I ought to try it sometime. I'd probably like it.

( >:D to myself)

No. 10 is Stravinsky's Symphonies for wind instruments
Correct, but you disappoint... No more?

GUYS! Seriously! 9 is a piece of cake. The composer of 11 should be a dead giveaway from the first second.

12 and 15 are more challenging. 14 is a not-so-well-known piece by a very famous composer.

Perhaps I'm being too harsh... :(
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

Brian

I think they're all Ligeti.

No, but really, I think #9 could be early Ligeti for sure.

Yes. Concerto for Romanians and Orchestra.

And it's the only Ligeti.

You mean Concert romanesc? I think your translation is amusing.  ;D
Concert romanesc is my favorite Ligeti by a wide margin.

I try... You should see my butchering of Messiaen titles. :D

(it's cool)

It is a great piece. Reminds me (not surprisingly) of the Bartok Romanian Folk Dances.

16 - the finale to Schumann's 2nd.
17 - the great bassoon joke in Haydn 93, slow mvt.
20 - sounds like one of the interludes from Wozzeck.
22 - I'm pretty sure this is Mahler, but I can't place exactly which offhand.
"I don't know what sforzando means, though it clearly means something."

Jo498

22 is Rondo-Burleske from Mahler's 9th.

14 sounds like Sousa, but it probably isn't

Correct on 16 and 17. 22 is Mahler.

You're over-thinking 20, but not a bad guess. Much more famous! I'm surprised that Mirror Image didn't stop by and swoop this one up.

Correct. I always get this one stuck in my head.

 (Not a bad guess, actually, but it isn't Sousa). Written during Sousa's lifetime, but on the other side of the puddle (and then inland, some).

So far we have
9. Ligeti Concert Romanesc (a.k.a. Concerto for Romanians and Orchestra)
10. Stravinsky Symphonies of Wind Instruments
16. Schumann Symphony No. 2, 4th movement
17. Haydn Symphony No. 93, 2nd movement
22. Mahler Symphony No. 9, 3rd movement.

Keep it up!

I wasn't "over-thinking" at all, just saying what first came to mind (even though I had my doubts about the precise ID). And both Schoenberg op. 16 and Wozzeck are as famous as it gets in 20th century music.

As for 14, it sounds like a Tchaikovsky ballet. Nutcracker it definitely is not, so maybe Sleeping Beauty.

True. I gave the interlude from Wozzeck a listen and I see exactly what you mean. Sorry if I came off as aggressive -- I was just joking around. Truth be told, I didn't get a single one that other people posted awhile ago (other than a couple of James'). When I saw the correct answers, some of the pieces were ones that I even knew! :(

Nope. An early (student?) work by a very famous composer.

Nah. Another French guy. Arguably the most intense and forward movement of this famous piece (which is otherwise generally melodic). And he's in another unguessed audio clip, too.
