Could anyone please tell me how the current lineup of the Borodin Quartet (Aharonian, Abramenkov, Naidin, Balshin) compares with the original group (Dubinsky, Alexandrov, Shebalin, Berlinksy)? I have the latter's Chandos box set of Shostakovich but have not heard the new line up. Their website suggests they shared the same pedigree. Cheers.

I don't know the latest Shostakovich interpretation which seems to be incomplete (String Quartets Nos. 2, 3, 7, 8 & 12). But there's an intermediary complete version of the quartets on Melodya with this lineup (Kopelman, Abramenkov, Shebalin, Berlinsky) which I prefer to the Chandos that I own too. Cherry on the cake: Sviatoslav Richter in the Quintet!  :P
