Minsoo Sohn's cycle seems to have disappeared off of Spotify, Apple, Amazon...

What is interesting is that I can trick Qobuz to show me the tracks, but if I try to click them, then I get a 404. Looks like it was intentionally pulled. This is why I always say if you like it, buy it. Can't count on something being on streaming forever.

There are some videos of him playing some sonatas in a concert-like setting (if there's an audience it's well hidden in the shadows*) on Youtube, but the playlist for the Sony set only says there are 101 hidden videos, and that it was updated yesterday (meaning June 3)

*ETA: there's applause at the very end.

A propos Sohn, I think Todd has been away for a very long time by now.

Yes, he's usually back sooner than this. Does anyone have an email address for him, to make sure he's okay?

Good advice. I've bought all my favorites but Sohn didn't quiiite crack the need/price threshold. And now- no streaming OR purchasing as far as I can tell. I liked listening to it to compare from time to time. But I already own Kikuchi (a Todd recommendation, totally amazing in my view for everything up to the late sonatas where I find it very disappointing), Lucchesini, Fischer, Guy, Kosuge, and Schiff, and that covers a pretty wide range of styles that made me lean against buying another (expensive) set.

Also at one time I bought Annie Fischer for 10$, Lucchesini for only $40, and Guy for only $10 (all downloads)  ;D

Albums vanish from streaming, and just as quickly when released on plastic CDs.

The urge to hold on, to preserve, to own something forever — it's futile. No-thing lasts. And who's to say the one trying to keep it all will even be here in the next minute?

Everything in the apparent world disappears. One should look elsewhere for what doesn't perish.

Maybe Sohn, coming from an Eastern cultural background, showed this in a simple, almost playful way — by pulling his cycle from immediate access. A quiet gesture, maybe with a touch of humor.

But will anyone notice the message? Will it be heard? :)

The playlist does not exist. That is okay, I've listened to the cycle before.

Thank you for mentioning this. A quick search on youtube turned up the following Op.109, in what appears to be an empty auditorium (and sans applause), which if it's the same performance as used for his recording of the complete set, is either Seoul Arts Center or Tongyeong Concert Hall where the recording sessions took place. The performance itself is quite wonderful I think.
