What's your favorite collection?

(I don't own the Salonen or Boulez boxes, but rather most of the individual discs.)

The Shed is empty. When utilized, it is not filled up. So deep! It seems to be the source of all things.

I dig it!

Well, the Stravinsky's Own Big Box is an evergreen favorite.

I'm a fan, too, of the Robt Craft recordings, tidily reissued by Naxos:

Truth to tell, the first complete Firebird I ever heard was Rattle/CBSO, and I've never yet found those socks of mine which were that day knocked off . . . so this is a fave, too:

Thanks. I like me some Boulez.

Brian

I have the twofer of Chailly on Decca with Rite, Petrushka, and Firebird [suite], and it suits me fine, but then, I don't love Stravinsky and don't collect him very much. Firebird [complete] with Boulez on DG is terrific.

Sentimental favorite:

I really love the Pretrushka in this set, but then I've always loved Petrushka the most.

There's a really spectacular recording of Firebird by Chailly on Decca.

Want to hear something different? Try The Bad Plus version of Rite of Spring......bet Igor would find it interesting.....

I own all of the Boulez recordings as individual discs, so I'd go with that one too.  I recently purchased the CBSO Firebird and agree about the sock-knocking.  This looks very tempting indeed...

Uniformly excellent with the best Cartes I know, I like this set immensely

I have probably five discs' worth from this set (in prior releases) and agree it's first-rate.

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Is there enough Bernstein/Stravinsky from Sony/Columbia to make a decent box? If so that'd be sweet. I have three from this source and can't say enough good things about them. But at least one is already OOP (Oedipus Rex).

I am not angry, only a little hurt. We can still be friends, Brian 0:)

Oh, I understand, laddie.  Brian knows (I hope) that I jest.  They do but poison in jest . . . .

You can't go wrong with the Stravinsky Conducts Stravinsky box set on Sony nor could anyone go wrong with the Robert Craft box set. All are essential acquisitions IMHO for the Stravinsky fan.

Yes, go for it! The box set is cheap as hell and you get some very exciting readings of the well-known works and the more unknown ones. Stravinsky is not the final word on his own music of course, but it certainly makes for some interesting listening.

I prefer a faster "Danse Sacrale" in rite, offered here. The whole work is performed meticulously by Ozawa, too.
