This eerie image (Gloucester Cathedral at night, 1956) according to Ursula Vaughan Williams much impressed the composer, and according to her may have influenced the spectral last movement of his Sixth Symphony. At least it makes a striking cover image for this two piano version of the symphony:

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Interestingly, I was considering posting the Reich album in the "worst album cover" thread. I never liked that cover at all. Just goes to show you that people have different trains tastes!  :D

I love it.

I like the Strauss one -- very cool! Must be due to Kubrick's inclusion of that work in "2001: A Space Odyssey".

Agree, that's what I've always thought.  I have the LP where the image takes up the full cover and it looks great.

Ha! I was waiting for someone to say that!

Coincidentally I was looking at that Furtwangler cover today - it is very striking.

Didn't know about this disc. Nice cover, nice program, great ensemble.
Calefax has a fantastic Rameau disc out, as well some music of Byrd, Shostakovich and others.

Any Bach fans recognize this?

Yep:

And...

So, which came first?

Bach - Brandenburg Concertos (October 18, 2005)
Tom Wessels - The Myth Of Progress (April 9, 2013)
George Monbiot - Feral (May 30, 2013)

But while I get that the deer in the parking garage might be seen as fitting for books on ecology, I do not understand the connection to Bach. When it came out, many people in Germany had as first association a nonsensical song from the early 80s "Da steht ein Pferd auf'm Flur" (there's horse standing in the hallway).
NB I just learned tha this was ripped from a Dutch song (Er staat een paard in de gang)...
